CNC Swiss Lathe MachinistThis role focuses on independently setting up and running production jobs on CNC Swiss lathes within a precision machining department. You will handle the full process for your assigned machines, from job setup and program adjustments to running parts and performing detailed quality checks using precision measuring tools. You will work within a cell of seven CNC lathes, typically responsible for two to three machines at a time, producing long-run parts that hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.0005 on most features. After a two-week training period with the first-shift lead, you will transition to working independently on your shift while maintaining high quality and throughput.ResponsibilitiesSet up CNC lathes independently, including tooling, offsets, and program loading for production jobs.Run parts on CNC Swiss lathes and CNC mills as assigned, maintaining consistent production flow.Perform in-process and final quality checks using micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and optical comparators to verify dimensions and tolerances.Interpret and use blueprints to set up jobs correctly, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.Monitor machine performance and part quality throughout long production runs ranging from approximately 200 parts to several thousand parts.Troubleshoot machining issues, make necessary adjustments, and perform changeovers between jobs to minimize downtime.Work within a cell of seven CNC lathes, managing two to three machines at a time while maintaining tight tolerances of +/- 0.0005 on most parts.Collaborate with the first-shift lead during the daily overlap period to receive job orders and priorities for the shift.Maintain an organized work area and follow established processes to support a clean and efficient precision machining environment.Use mechanical aptitude and CAD/CAM or programming knowledge, where applicable, to support efficient setup and machining operations.Essential SkillsAbility to set up CNC lathes without assistance, including tooling, offsets, and program setup.Experience with CNC Swiss lathes or CNC lathe setup; Haas or mill setup experience is also considered.Proficiency in checking part quality using micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and optical comparators.Ability to read and interpret blueprints to correctly set up jobs and verify part dimensions.Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving machining and dimensional issues during production.Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machining processes and equipment.Comfort working with tight tolerances, including +/- 0.0005 on precision parts.Additional Skills & QualificationsHands-on CNC Swiss lathe experience is preferred.Experience with CNC mills and Haas equipment is beneficial.Background using CAD/CAM software or basic CNC programming is a plus.Experience performing changeovers and working in a multi-machine cell environment.Familiarity with both precision and high-volume production machining environments.Why Work Here?You will join a clean, recently renovated facility that combines an updated, modern culture with a welcoming small-company feel. The plant operates three shifts and has both precision and production areas, creating a busy, fast-paced environment with a strong focus on quality. Openings are available on different shifts: a C shift running Friday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., totaling 36 hours with pay for 40 hours when the full 36 are worked; and a B shift running Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with unlimited overtime available. Work takes place on CNC Swiss lathes and CNC mills within a multi-machine cell, using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and optical comparators. The shop can be loud when all machines are running and may become hot in the summer, as there is no air conditioning; large fans and open truck bay doors are used to improve airflow. The plant maintains a small-company, family-oriented atmosphere despite its production scale.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benton Harbor, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
