Assistant Produce Manager

Job Location 8915 MARKET PL, LAKE STEVENS, WA, 98258, US Union Status Union-covered position. All crew members must join the labor union. Responsibilities Actively participate, train, and mentor bakery department crew members to promote fresh in‑store scratch bakery products. Prepare fresh produce for sale: receive, wash, cut, stock following department and company policies. Assist leadership in staffing: plan and assign work, coach sessions, administer discipline as needed, provide training, address complaints, resolve problems. Conduct daily team huddles each shift to communicate sales goals and reinforce guest service expectations. Write and place orders for products and supplies; check receipts, date, stock and organize dry storage and coolers. Write daily plans and weekly schedules anticipating business needs. Rotate merchandise and maintain displays to ensure products meet freshness guarantee. Coordinate validation, item authorization, sign making and POS maintenance for produce department. Ensure displays are properly stocked. Maintain accurate records for damaged/spoiled merchandise per company policies. Comply with all food and workplace safety rules and regulations. Maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area and equipment. Acquire product knowledge across departments to respond to guest questions. Stay updated on weekly specials, coupons, and promotions. Promote a team‑oriented work environment encouraging collaboration. Store open seven days a week; may require weekend, holiday, and shift work. Qualifications Department operations experience or equivalent education. Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried; willingness to taste and evaluate produce. Ability to follow instructions and procedures for the proper handling of knives and equipment. Strong work ethic, time‑management skills, and ability to follow instructions and procedures. Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for recipes, sales transactions, and discounts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Excellent communication skills; professional courtesy with guests, crew, management, and corporate sales managers; ability to answer telephone calls and use the in‑store intercom. Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and detergents without allergic reaction. Ability to work with food ingredients, produce, and spices without allergic reaction. Minimum age 18 due to equipment use and work environment. Current State Food Handler’s Permit must be maintained. Tools and Equipment Knives, wrapper, box knife, scale, computer, printer, telephone, shopping cart, garbage compactor, bailer, pallet jack, flat bed, hand truck, ladder, calculator. Physical Requirements Lifting 25‑50 lbs routinely; standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, fingering, pushing/pulling, sitting.
