Respiratory Therapy Supervisor

Overview Kindred Hospital Paramount and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 177-bed hospital. With 159 long‑term acute care hospital (LTACH) beds, we offer the same in‑depth care you would receive in a traditional hospital, but for an extended recovery period. Our 18‑bed ARU is designed for people who have experienced the debilitating effects of an acute injury, impairment or illness and, like the LTACH, we partner with your physician and offer 24‑hour clinical care seven days a week so you can start your journey to wellness. Job Summary Under the supervision of the Director/Manager of Respiratory Therapy, assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the respiratory care staff. Administers respiratory therapy and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Performs diagnostic testing of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders. Assists in assuring departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and participates in performance improvement activities. Essential Functions Assist in planning, defining, and developing Respiratory Care’s scope of practice, including implementation of new services. Assist in implementing efficient services or measures commensurate with the hospital’s mission and vision. Assist with planning, coordinating and supervising the activities of the staff during the shift. Ensure correct administration of respiratory medications and treatments based on the age of the patient and clinical conditions. Assure staff competence in all aspects of patient care, including reading and implementing physician orders, drawing and analyzing arterial blood gases, reviewing patient information, and operating devices and equipment safely. Keep staff informed of pertinent clinical issues. Assist in assuring adequate and efficient staffing and scheduling to meet changing patient care needs. Assess and delegate patient care related to respiratory therapy. Ensure staff follows departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Maintain effective communication with staff and administration. Schedule cardiopulmonary procedures for inside or outside sources and maintain records and reports. Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper functioning and readiness for patient use. Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in the formation of the plan of care. Perform and assist in training and evaluating staff on all procedures and tasks of the respiratory therapist. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Expectations Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must read, write, and speak fluent English. Demonstrate critical thinking, appropriate prioritization, and time management skills. Work effectively under stress and respond quickly in emergency situations. Maintain good and regular attendance. Qualifications Education Respiratory Therapy education as required for attainment of credentialing by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Licenses/Certification Current Respiratory Therapy license from the appropriate state licensing body. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential in compliance with the National Board for Respiratory Care Credential Maintenance Program (CMP). Current BLS and ACLS certifications. Experience Two years of previous experience in all aspects of respiratory care services preferred. Previous leadership experience preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
