Qualifications:

• Master's Degree
• Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate in School Counseling

Reports To: Building Principal

General Summary:

To provide a comprehensive guidance program for all students.

Consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students.

Provide support to other educational programs.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Serve as an advocate for children.
• Provide counseling to individuals and small groups as needed to help them in meeting their educational, vocational, personal and social needs.
• Conduct developmentally appropriate classroom guidance sessions in concordance with classroom teachers to aid in teaching the life skills curriculum standards and essential learning.
• Consult and serve as a resource to teachers, administrators, and parents in helping promote a better understanding of individual behavior and human relationships including, but not limited to, brain compatibility, personality types, and learning styles.
• Provide a comprehensive career-life planning program for all students including administering appropriate assessments, interpreting data, maintaining portfolios in grades 9-12, and assisting with school-to-work implementation.
• Counsel individuals and groups of students in educational planning based on academic and career interests, experiences, and abilities. Assist in the development of personalized learning plans for each student.
• Refer students and families to special programs, specialist and/or community agencies when appropriate.
• Coordinate activities or programs designated by the principal that serve to promote the social and academic well-being of students such as orientations, drug and alcohol prevention, career fairs, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by the administration.

Working Conditions:

Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.

Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule (190 days)
