Lecturer LL.M. Legal Research and Writing - School of Law

Percent time: Generally part‑time; 5–100%. Anticipated start: Fall 2026 or later. Review timeline: February–June (fall) and July–October (spring). Position duration: one semester or full academic year, subject to renewal based on need. Position Description The LL.M. Legal Research and Writing (LL.M. LRW) course is a two‑unit offering that prepares foreign‑trained LL.M. students for U.S. legal reasoning and practice. Instructors will teach one section with about 12 students, meeting once a week for 110 minutes during the fall semester. No teaching assistant. Courses are conducted in‑person, with office hours and meetings available via Zoom. Responsibilities Prepare and deliver course content during weekly in‑person sessions. Provide written feedback on assignments and grade students at the end of the semester on a standardized curve. Hold one hour of office hours each week, and meet with each student at least once to discuss written work. Participate in the course development and use standardized materials provided by the Director of LL.M. LRW. Attend training and support sessions with the Director as required. Qualifications Basic Qualifications (required at time of application) J.D. or equivalent international degree, or LL.M. or equivalent international degree. Additional Qualifications (required at time of start) Minimum of three years of professional experience in U.S. legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law‑school teaching. Availability to teach in‑person during required law‑school class times. Preferred Qualifications U.S. legal practice experience. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English. Demonstrated or potential for excellent teaching in legal research and writing.
