RN PACU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following a wide range of surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patient status, managing pain and complications, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective post-operative care. The nurse will support pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations in a Level II Trauma Center environment, adhering to ASPAN standards and maintaining high standards of clinical practice. Responsibilities:

• Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including pain management and emergency interventions.
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Provide preoperative care for ICU patients as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EPIC electronic medical records.
• Support a variety of surgical specialties including vascular, general, orthopedic, pediatric, urology, gynecology, neuro/spine, podiatry, ophthalmology, thoracic, trauma, cardiovascular lab, GI, interventional radiology, bariatric, ENT, oral, and plastics.
• Respond to trauma and emergency situations in a Level II Trauma Center setting.
• Participate in call rotations and float assignments as required.
• Adhere to ASPAN standards and hospital policies to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Current certifications in ACLS and BLS.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience preferred; first-time PACU nurses accepted.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient monitoring skills.
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records system.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• PALS certification preferred.
• Experience with anesthesia and post-anesthesia care.
• Familiarity with care of ICU patients and Level II Trauma Center protocols.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a 29-bay PACU spread across two floors.
• Call schedule includes one primary and one secondary call shift every four weeks.
• Float assignments to other units may be required.
• Strict adherence to ASPAN and hospital standards.
• No reddish orange scrub colors permitted.
• Facility parking costs covered by employer.

Scheduling:

• Four 10-hour day shifts per week, typically 0900 to 1930.
• Shifts may vary with staggered start times including 10 and 12-hour shifts.
• Weekend work required once per four-week period.
• Guaranteed 70 hours per two-week pay period.
• Assignment length is 13 weeks.
