2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Film and Media Studies Job no: 555020 Work type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer Location: Los Angeles Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Faculty - Fine/Performing Arts, Temporary, Part Time The TV, Film, and Media Studies Department in the College of Arts and Letters at Cal State LA is seeking applications for a pool of part‑time faculty lecturers with positions available as needed during the 2026‑2027 academic year. Positions will be filled as needed for each semester. Part‑time faculty lecturers are hired conditionally, with appointments based on enrollment and budget. Initial appointments are typically one semester, occasionally an academic year. Appointments may be renewed depending on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to a semester start, so faculty may need to be available on short notice. Minimum Qualifications Candidate must hold a TV, Film, and Media Studies degree or related discipline from an accredited university. Master’s degree plus substantial teaching experience for lower and upper division undergraduate courses, or doctoral degree (or master’s plus substantial teaching experience) for graduate courses. Demonstrated excellence or exceptional promise in teaching at the college level. Ability to relate well within an academic environment and an interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural setting. Commitment to student‑centered learning and teaching. Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment. Relevant work experience and training in the field. A doctoral or terminal degree in TV, Film, and Media Studies or a closely related discipline. Duties Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties as assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Courses offered cover several topics in the history, criticism, and theory of TV, Film, and Media. Salary and Compensation Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Lecturer A/2 Full‑time equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 Lecturer B/3 Full‑time equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 - $13,224 Lecturer C/4 Full‑time equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 - $14,523 Lecturer D/5 Full‑time equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 - $15,211 The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Most new faculty lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
