Optical Area Manager

Retail Optical Area Manager is responsible for planning and leading the activities of all retail locations within the assigned area of operation, including full profit and loss responsibility and ensuring alignment with company goals. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Partner with Director Optical Operations and Optical Lead to participate in talent selection. Work with Optical Leads to manage daily staffing requirements including callouts. Prepare and deliver performance reviews for direct reports. Collaborate with Director Optical Operations, Optical Leads, and HR to manage performance and employee relations issues. Support Director of Optical Operations with coordinating training on merchandising standards, product flow, inventory flexing and signage. Collaborate with Director Marketing to develop location‑specific presentations and merchandise concepts. Identify business opportunities and create action plans to drive results. Coach and direct team to meet standards for patient service. Maintain daily merchandise presentation and replenishment. Manage pricing, ad sets, price changes and markdown presentation. Maintain daily and weekly sales reports to track, analyze and communicate business results. Manage appointment fill rate, capture rate and no‑show rate. Communicate merchandise and product performance opportunities or observations. Handle patient complaints and optical order issues. Work with contact center to respond to patient inquiries. Manage follow‑up, recalls and confirmations. Execute all company policies, procedures, and processes ensuring compliance with operational procedures and legal regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility Reports to Director Optical Operations. Supervise Optical Leads and employees who report directly, including interviewing, motivating, delegating, promoting, counseling, coaching, performance appraisals, and terminating. Ensure quality patient experience through coaching and motivating employees across locations. Working Conditions and Environmental/Physical Demands Standing and walking 95% of the day. Full body rotation (bending, stooping, twisting). Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. Operate a motor vehicle. Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers. No adverse environmental conditions expected. Position/Type – Expected Hours of Work Hours are generally Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Some locations may require half‑day or full‑day Saturday shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., based on business needs. Travel Frequent travel to multiple retail optical locations is required. Qualifications Minimum 5 years optical experience. Minimum 3 years in managing optical teams. Experience in high‑end eyewear sales and/or independent practice – preferred. Florida Optician license – preferred. Skills and Abilities Work well with all levels of management and influence teams. Highly organized and able to adapt to quickly changing priorities. Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Strong record of quality experience demonstrated through past achievements. Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills. Problem‑solving, analytical, and strategic skills.
