Job Description

Summary Maintains close observation of the video monitored patients at a central monitoring station. Provides continuous surveillance of assigned patients through a camera monitoring system or constant roving to observe the video monitored patients on the patient care unit. Observes, interprets risky patient behaviors, communicates with the patient's care team members, and documents in the patient's electronic medical record in regular intervals. At times provides continuous, direct, one-to-one patient observation of patients of all ages. Oversees patient/staff communications to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Job Duties

• Admits patients to the monitoring system; selects proper profiles, protocols, and identification formats.
• Checks for signature on the Consent to Treat form, sets up equipment, conducts quality control checks, and takes care of equipment care and cleaning.
• Observes video of patients (in real-time) and calls appropriate staff members if an issue arises with a patient that requires immediate staff response.
• Prepares a list of staff contact names and phone numbers and pre-programs phone numbers for direct dial access.
• Maintains records of each patient's behavior, patient response to redirection, and frequency of redirection.
• Provides continuous direct one-to-one patient observation.
• Assists in completing direct patient care tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 1 year Technology-related experience.
• Ability to work with multiple interruptions and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to understand and use basic medical terminology.
• BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association within 30 Days

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of Technical Partner or Patient Observation Assistant training/orientation. and
• Successful completion of Crisis Management Course.

Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
