Middle School Music Teacher (Job ID: 757) Hours: .80 FTE Salary: $64,042 - $117,614 (prorated based on FTE) Position Summary Under the general supervision of the building principal, performs a variety of tasks, with the major responsibility being the instruction and supervision of students. Demonstrates a competent level of knowledge and skill in planning for and implementing instruction, student achievement, and creates a positive classroom environment. Demonstrates a commitment to continual professional growth and the accomplishment of building, district, and state goals as related to the education of students. Responsibilities Lesson Planning and Design Develops lessons based on Universally Designed Learning (UDL) with clear objectives focusing on Common Core State Standards (CCSS), concepts, skills, and strategies. Incorporates data-driven reflection and assessment results, including student self-assessments, to improve lessons. Meets the learning needs of the students by planning culturally responsive instructional strategies and practices. Selects and organizes instructional materials and equipment for the unit of instruction. Ensures a positive and supportive school environment that engages all students and includes multiple pathways for success. Plan and conduct lessons to promote educational equity for all students in order to eliminate disproportional racial and socioeconomic predictability of academic success. Classroom Environment Creates and sustains a sense of belonging and inclusive learning environment. Establishes management practices that result in routines, transitions, and minimal loss of instruction time through use of PBIS. Establishes and maintains open communication with students and caregivers. Uses MTSS framework to provide behavioral supports and intervention. Manages student discipline fairly and in accordance with building regulations, school board policies, and legal requirements. Uses classroom time effectively to provide maximum time on learning tasks. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned periods. Assessment Communicates clear assessment criteria and standards. Assesses effectiveness of lessons to plan instruction and improve practices. Evaluates and informs students of their progress in a timely manner and provides opportunities for feedback. Instruction and Classroom Teaching Practice Creates lessons that present subject matter clearly with multiple entry points. Provides clear direction and checks for understanding. Uses a wide variety of strategies to differentiate learning experiences. Explains, demonstrates, provides practice and feedback. Uses inclusionary practices for varying ability levels, including IEP students. Professional Development and Responsibilities Participates in staff meetings, professional development, and district strategic plans. Assumes responsibility for caregiver communication in a timely manner. Communicates professionally with students, caregivers, and colleagues. Completes required records and reports promptly. Acts in IEP and 504 meetings. Qualifications Washington State Certification. Specific endorsement may be required. Experience in equitable teaching practices, UDL. Commitment to equitable access and experiences for all students. High level of organization skills and practices. Experience or ability to teach online. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: generally 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
