Position Title: High School Festival Director Compensation Range: $12,000-$14,000 per contract year (based on experience and scope of responsibilities) Target Start Date: On or before September 1, 2026 About the Alabama Conference of Theatre (ACT) The Alabama Conference of Theatre (ACT) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the theatre arts. Position Overview The High School Festival Director (HSFD) is responsible for the logistics and efficient running of the two- part High School Theatre Trumbauer Festival: District and State Trumbauer. The HSFD is the logistical director for the Trumbauer State Festival. The HSFD reports to the Executive Director (ED) and works in conjunction with the High School Branch Chair and Vice Chair. This position requires a professional, organized leader who can manage complex logistics, maintain software systems, and provide clear communication to a diverse range of stakeholders. Key Duties & Responsibilities The HSFD oversees the successful execution of the Trumbauer Festivals, while exemplifying the organization’s values of inclusivity and excellence. 1. Logistics & Festival Management: Ensure the efficient running of all District and State Festivals. Act as the primary liaison between the state host site, High School Branch chair and vice chair, and the ED. Coordinate and oversee the logistical planning and execution of the State coordination of festival requirements. Order and distribute all District and State awards and trophies. Procure lodging, transportation, meals, and hospitality for key personnel attending the State festival. Ensure security over and confidentiality of participant information and internal ACT systems. 2. Software & Registration Oversight: Manage and serve as the primary point person for registration and scoring software (Knack). Manage school registrations, maintain participant databases, and provide timely communication regarding participants and advancing entries. 3. Communication & Liaison: Maintain active communication with school directors regarding festival procedures. Manage High School branch social media, website updates, and festival manuals in coordination with the High School State Chair. Maintain active liaison with key people and organizations involved in educational theatre in Alabama, the SETC region, and nationally. 4. Judge Coordination: Secure, train, and oversee One-Act and Studio judges for the State Festival. Maintain a comprehensive, updated list of qualified judges for all individual and group events. 5. Financial & Administrative Oversight : Maintain the budget for Trumbauer-related expenses under the oversight of the ED. Be on-call during District Festivals and on-site for the duration of the State Festival. Communicate with and assist the ED in other operations of ACT as requested. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, event management, nonprofit management, theatre arts, theatre education, or related field preferred. The successful candidate will have: 1. Administrative Excellence: Proven experience in event management, logistics, and database administration, preferably within an educational or arts-based non-profit setting. 2. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain a polite, professional, and helpful demeanor when interacting with teachers, directors, board members, and the public. 3. Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in database management (experience with Knack or similar low-code platforms highly preferred). Competent in using office software (Excel, Word) and Google Workspace with expertise in utilizing Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets for collaborative project management and real-time document versioning. Experience with social media, website management, newsletters, and content development. 4. Leadership & Organization: Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Experience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Working Conditions Physical Demands: Requires substantial physical activity during festival days, including standing, walking, and lifting/carrying of festival materials (awards, supplies). Availability: Must be available to be on-site and on-call during the dates of District and State Festivals. Regular meetings with ED, High School Chair, Vice Chair and District Chairs. Environment: This is an independent, part-time contract position with flexible work hours. While most work can be done remotely, on-site presence at festivals is mandatory. Formal performance feedback is provided annually.
