Fire Systems Inspector - Menifee

About the Position The County of Riverside Fire Department seeks a Fire Systems Inspector to support the Menifee location. The inspector performs fire and life safety inspections of existing facilities, structures under construction, and various fire protection systems to ensure compliance with the California Fire and Building Code. Responsibilities Inspect assigned building and development projects for conformance with applicable laws, codes, and regulations relating to fire protection and life safety; conduct special inspections and investigations of existing structures as they relate to fire and life safety code compliance. Witness and/or certify installation and testing of specialized fire protection systems, including private underground fire main systems, hood duct or suppression systems, fire sprinklers, standpipe systems, self‑contained high‑rise systems, fire alarm systems, and other specialized equipment. Perform annual business and multi‑family residential fire inspections; perform annual fire and life safety clearance inspections at licensed facilities such as hospitals, residential care facilities, and childcare centers. Prepare and issue notices of correction, notices of violation, and fire code permits; maintain records and reports of properties in compliance or violation of fire safety laws and regulations. Minimum Qualifications Education : Graduation from high school or satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test. Experience : One year performing fire safety inspections, building construction inspections, hazard reduction and abatement inspections, plans examination, or fire suppression. (Fifteen semester units or twenty‑two quarter units of fire protection study may be substituted.) Knowledge : Technical knowledge of code standards, fire safety protection systems, prevention methods, and applicable fire, life safety, and building codes. Skills : Ability to read and interpret construction plans, prepare accurate reports, interpret codes for the public, establish effective working relationships, communicate verbally and in writing, operate office equipment, and make public presentations. License/Certificate : Valid California Driver’s License and completion of the California State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector 1A–1D, or equivalent certification, within one year.
