Fiber SplicerFiberTel is looking for a Fiber Splicer for our Portland, OR location. The Fiber Splicer is a skilled telecommunications professional responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic networks in both aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) or inside plan (ISP) environments. This individual is expected to work independently, demonstrate technical expertise, and perform all duties associated with fiber optic splicing while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.The Fiber Splicer may provide daily direction and on-the-job training to a Splicing Laborer or other field personnel, helping to ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with company and customer specifications.This position requires flexibility in work hours and may include on-call responsibilities, overtime, night work, and weekend assignments as needed to support project schedules and customer service requirements. The Fiber Splicer will regularly interact with customers, inspectors, utility representatives, and internal team members and is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while representing FiberTel in the field.Pay: $25-40/hr, DOEResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:Install and repair fiber optics.Assist in splicingSetting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriersFlagging traffic when requiredFlexibility to work in multiple locationsPrepare splice locations, termination points, and installation of splice closuresClean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment dailySplice loose tube fiberDrive and properly use a bucket truckOperate splicing equipmentIdentify issues with fiber using red lightConstruct proper splice casesSubmit daily time cards for crew membersPlace a mid-sheath spliceFill out audit sheets per location (per splice)Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDRFollow all safety rules and regulationsUpdate job completion sheetPull fiber when neededComplete cut sheetPre-Trip vehicle inspection (daily)Ability to work at night /various hours.QualificationsQualifications:Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.A good driving record is required.Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistanceKnowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers associatedAbility to work flexible hours, which may include nights and weekendsUnderstanding of terminology used in fiber splicingExperience splicing fiber including all necessary steps2-3 years' experience splicing fiberPreferred Qualifications:Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.Able to perform all duties in fiber optic constructionAbility to travel.Working ConditionsThis is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.Physical Requirements:The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling.
