Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. The Department of History, Law, and Society is seeking two tenure-track positions in Criminal Justice. This position will teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester. The primary location for this position is the Henderson campus. Teaching assignments are determined based on departmental and programmatic needs and may include courses at Nevada State University's North Las Vegas campus.

About Criminal Justice at Nevada State:

Criminal Justice serves a student population of approximately 300 majors and minors. The program provides students with a foundation of criminal justice courses while incorporating social justice issues. We are seeking expertise and/or teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: legal issues, policing and corrections. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester. Teaching assignments are determined based on departmental and programmatic needs and may include courses at Nevada State University's North Las Vegas campus.
  • Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Criminal Justice in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online). Please familiarize yourself with our course offerings.
  • Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.
  • Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Criminal Justice or Criminology. Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the degree will be completed by June 30, 2027.
  • Evidence of strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduates.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, or interest in, working with a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity and/or experience with Canvas learning management system.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: criminal law, law and society, comparative criminal justice systems, immigration law, social inequality, policing, and/or corrections.

Rank, Salary & Benefits:

9-month. Tenure Track. Budgeted salary for this position is $66,879.00. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
