Business Associate A – Admitting and Throughput at Mount Sinai Hospital – Part‑Time, 30 hours, 4 days/week, variable shift. Must be able to work day, night, and weekend shifts. Responsible for the business aspects of a patient's stay, as well as patient focused care within the Medical Center. Duties include maintaining census data, scheduling tests and medical procedures, receiving and maintaining inventory, and other related duties. Responsibilities Pre‑admit patients to the Medical Center, taking reservations, obtaining demographic, insurance and other pertinent data, discussing state mandatory regulations, and describing expectations upon admission. Admit patients to the Medical Center, verifying demographic and insurance information, signing of forms, collecting deposits, and obtaining authorizations as necessary. Function as liaison to insurance companies and the Medicaid Eligibility Office, screen requests for medical necessity, obtain prior authorizations when required, pre‑certify admissions, and assist in document collection. Maintain census and charge data, updating all prevailing systems and compiling information for charge capture. Schedule appropriate tests and medical procedures and follow‑up appointments. Assist in chart completion process by maintaining and discharging charts in proper order, compiling deficiency data, and working with physicians to complete charts. Greets visitors and answers telephones promptly and courteously; accompanies visitors to appropriate areas as necessary. Assist patients with guest services such as television and telephone service, securing valuables, etc.; provide information and make referrals as appropriate. Receive and maintain business office inventory for the care center. Answer call system and refer to appropriate staff. Other duties as assigned, including reporting/following up on lost/found patient property, review of death certificates for completion and accuracy, generation of reports, etc. Qualifications High school diploma or GED; Associate preferred. At least 1 year of previous related work experience. Proven data entry and computer skills required. Medical database experience (e.g., Cerner, IDX, Eagle). Clerical skills (answering phones, relaying messages, reception, correspondence, etc.). Proven customer service experience in a healthcare environment. Previous experience with insurance pre‑certifications and discharging patients. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $30.56–$32.73 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses or incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
