Transportation Coordinator

Transportation Coordinator for the Plano School District Job Goal To supervise drivers and design bus routes that allow for the smooth operation of the transportation components of the educational program, ensuring the safety of all Plano Community Unit School District No. 88 students and staff, and supporting the transportation needs of all curricular and extra‑curricular programs. Qualifications Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize work effectively. Ability to utilize bus routing software. Basic accounting skills and ability to use spreadsheet software. Conversational Spanish is desirable, but not required. Other qualifications may be considered as appropriate by the Board. Performance Responsibilities Design routes for regular education, special education, co‑curricular activities, homeless students, extra‑curricular activities, and parochial students as requested. Process parent requests for special pick‑up or drop‑off locations. Supervise the bidding process for routes and the awarding of routes. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment. Maintain a log of automotive maintenance and preventive care, ensuring repairs, oil and tire changes, and safety lane checks are completed in a timely manner. Oversee the recruitment, screening, training, testing, and evaluation of bus transportation employees. Respond to special transportation needs and provide appropriate specialized training. Supervise and assign work for drivers, aides, and the Assistant Transportation Coordinator. Remain available by district cell phone during and outside of regular work hours to respond to questions or problems related to transportation routes. Work as needed on school holidays and snow days to cover district transportation needs, and receive commensurate vacation time as compensation. Collect and compile data needed for state and federal reports. Collect and compile data needed for budgets and expenditure reports for state and federal grants that include transportation services. Work with principals and social workers to develop PBIS programs that educate bus riders about good behavior and develop reward programs to reinforce such behavior. Maintain timely and courteous lines of communication with the public and school personnel. Schedule and plan annual evacuation drills at all grade levels. Continuously update student and route information in transportation and student database software. Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping. Exercise fiscal responsibility in purchasing, routing, and contracting decisions. Complete annual reviews of all bus drivers and aides. Follow all district and transportation policies and procedures. Annually participate in revising the Transportation Handbook. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent from time to time. Terms of Employment Twelve-month position with salary and fringe benefits established yearly by the Board of Education.
