Shipping Manager

SupervisorSupervise forklift operators, Load Planner and handle all aspects of overseeing shipping duties.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise Load Planner to ensure Orders are planned for 100% On Time Delivery and Maximum Trailer efficiency.Supervise Forklift Operators in the daily routine of loading trucks neatly and to the customer's complete satisfaction.Attend daily Scheduling Meeting and assist the Plant Scheduler in meeting our customers' requirements.Prepare work orders for and coordinate repairs of trucks, trailers, forklifts, dock plates, and dock doors.Coordinate with Sales Service the delivery of the customer orders on time.Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of your department.Enforce corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees.Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.Adheres to daily production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery and service goals.Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses, with approval of your manager.Establish high morale within department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Maintain confidentiality.Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including safety programs and good housekeeping.Additional duties may be assigned by management.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises all employees assigned to the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance.Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED.Two years' experience as a Forklift Operator.One-year shipping experience.Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:College and/or related technical experience.One-year supervisory experience as a proven manager of at least five people.Four years' experience in the corrugated box industry.Language SkillsAble to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Mathematical SkillsAble to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Technical SkillsThe individual must have a working knowledge of the following:Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.Quality standards.Regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMay be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the supervisor.Personal growth - while the company will provide the tools to assist the supervisor to grow professionally the responsibility for moving forward lies with the individual.
