Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with Federal Project experience to apply building mechanical engineering principles, exceptional client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver projects that meet project requirements, exceed client expectations, and achieve financial and operational objectives. The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Federal is a technical leader with deep buildings engineering expertise and a proven track record delivering innovative mechanical solutions for the built environment. This role provides leadership in the planning, design, and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems while leveraging Revit and other digital design technologies to support project execution. As a senior engineer, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor and develop staff, support business development efforts, and help grow Stantec's Federal practice. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, provide technical leadership throughout project delivery, and collaborate with Stantec's Federal team to strengthen our presence across California and the US West through innovative, high-quality, and client-focused solutions. Working within our thriving Buildings practice, you will contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide technical leadership and quality control, support workload forecasting and financial performance, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams. Your Key Responsibilities Work with a team of design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects for multiple types of facilities. Contribute to the planning, design, and documentation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, and plumbing, while coordinating production resources and delegating effectively to project teams. Work collaboratively with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics, and develop innovative and practical solutions, and meet the project's conditions of satisfaction. Resolves design conflicts and questions and provides recommendations to address issues and add value. Participate in/lead project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on design principles, best practices, and project execution Effectively delegates work to design and production support staff. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by analyzing project outcomes and implementing best practices Establish strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design alignment with project objectives Engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design. Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess project variables and develop reliable design solutions. Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports. Ensure compliance with design standards and regulations. Actively contributes to the overall technical growth of the mechanical team. Apply strong mechanical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects. Understands and works within project budgets and schedules to help project manager meet project financial and schedule goals. Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue opportunities for new business. Proactively pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in-house and external training. Collaborates with the practice and market leaders to obtain and disseminate technical knowledge. Maintains and expands current knowledge of technologies, trends and the markets in which we work as they apply to the applicable project types and continually strengthens skills. Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub‑consultants, and partner firms in the local and regional A/E industry. Your Capabilities and Credentials Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects with measurable outcomes Fundamental knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including California building codes and regulations, IMC, IPC, NFPA, IBC, and ASHRAE, as well as LEED and green building requirements. A commanding knowledge of technical issues supporting delivered design services. Deep technical understanding and working knowledge of building systems, including, but not limited to, HVAC, Plumbing and controls. Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to develop concepts and ideas and evolve them into project deliverables. Familiarity with and ability to produce project-related documents and documentation standards required of a Project leader. Strong verbal and written communication skills and polished presentation and public speaking skills. Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design. Strong client communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and experience to identify and manage items of risk that may occur on projects. Knowledge and experience to identify and manage potential unanticipated scope. Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering challenges and clearly communicate technical solutions to clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously Experienced in mentoring and developing engineering talent within the organization. Passion for engineering innovation and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. Advanced proficiency with Revit for mechanical design, and load calculation tools (e.g., IES VE). Strong working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office. Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field Minimum 6+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or demonstrated skills. Professional Engineer licensed is preferred or currently working toward professional licensure. Project Management Professional certification, LEED AP credential, and familiarity with various construction delivery processes, such as Design-Build and Design Assist, is a plus. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Pay Range Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$103,000.00 - $149,300.00 Annually Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$107,300.00 - $155,500.00 Annually Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
