Construction Field Engineer

Overview The Sherwood Companies has a proven track record of completing a variety of projects from General Construction, to Construction Management and Design Build Projects for both public and private owners. A brief summary of the types of projects include urban expressways, bridges, underground utilities, dam construction, asphalt/concrete paving, and water/wastewater treatment plants. Job Description The incumbent will have oversight of very large construction projects. The responsibilities range from the actual physical construction of each segment to ensuring that environmental guidelines are met throughout the process. Field engineers are hands‑on and spend a lot of time both in the office and out at the physical construction site. This role is classified as safety sensitive. Activities / Tasks / Scope Assist the Project Manager and field construction supervisor in performing day‑to‑day duties to facilitate and manage the pre‑construction and construction activities. Prepare and track project submittals, assist in maintaining the performance of each subcontractor, verify compliance with the plans and specifications, attend weekly and monthly job site meetings, and fulfill other duties necessary for the successful completion of the projects. Work with project team members to develop a schedule plan and progress strategy for each project. Support the project with quality‑control analysis, coordinate with inspectors to ensure the construction work meets standards specified by designers. Scope and contract preparation, obtain various permits, prepare and review project schedules, estimate and verify change‑order requests, respond to RFIs and address subcontractor and consultant questions related to the project. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Prepare weekly and monthly reporting to project team members. Performance Measures On‑time delivery. Education / Experience Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a relative engineering field preferred. 0‑5 years’ experience in a related field. Outside at times; may be exposed to outdoor seasonal temperature extremes.
