The Behavior Coach is primarily involved in the behavioral management of children experiencing crisis situations and oversight of the Multisensory De-escalation Room. The Behavior Coach is required to respond quickly and skillfully, in a therapeutic manner, to a variety of crises (both individual and group), which may require the use of therapeutic holding techniques. The Behavior Coach is expected to facilitate crisis resolution in a manner, which promotes the learning of self-control and reinforces constructive problem solving. In addition, the Behavior Coach will be engaged in crisis prevention, which will involve training, data analysis, primary intervention, assessing volatile situations, and anticipating interventions necessary to defuse the situation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete a daily check of therapeutic behavioral aide (TBA) logs.
• Supervise the use of multi-sensory de-escalation rooms (MSDRs) and provide coaching of proper therapeutic use.
• Sanitize MSDRs rooms daily and sanitize mats after each use.
• Complete observations of TBAs and provide coaching on the implementation of students behavior intervention plans.
• Assist with the staffing of TBAs to ensure each student requiring a dedicated aide has a staff member assigned.
• Review intervention reports for proper completion and assist staff members in completing the form.
• Participate in case consult and team primacy meetings to address student behavior.
• Provide and participate in professional development on Wednesdays.
• Successfully complete the required crisis management program.
• Assume other duties as assigned.

• Ability to assess potential crisis situations involving both individuals and groups and utilize necessary resources to de-escalate and/or defuse these situations.
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations, at times requiring the use of therapeutic holding, using the least restrictive intervention necessary to de-escalate the situation.
• Relate to children with emotional disabilities and Autism in a sensitive, empathetic, understanding and clinically insightful manner.
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of behavioral management techniques that are therapeutic for students.
• Demonstrate knowledge of human behavior and child development, including understanding the factors that contribute to maladaptive behaviors.
• Ability to relate well to staff members and model professional behavior.
• Ability to communicate well, both orally and in written reports.
• Ability to analyze data and assist in the writing of behavior intervention plans.

Education and/or Experience:

A Bachelors degree in Psychology or a related mental health field preferred or two (2) years of demonstrated competence working with children with emotional disabilities in crisis situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be certified or eligible for certification in non-violent crisis management.

Must be certified or eligible for certification as a trainer in non-violent crisis intervention.
