Mental Health Counselor

Position Overview Under the direction of the Director of the Student Wellness Center, the Mental Health Counselor will provide short‑term individual and group counseling and education to students on a variety of issues that may impact their academic success or quality of life, while modeling the University Mission through dedicated performance, service excellence, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian values. Responsibilities Provide short‑term individual and group counseling to students on a variety of issues impacting their academic success or quality of life. Support care coordination of students, connect them to resources with service partners, and provide referral resources. Maintain appropriate clinical documentation for clients, consultations, and group services. Provide mentoring and support for Graduate Assistants on projects and programming. Serve on the Wellness Committee, support the design and implementation of issue‑based, evidence‑based psycho‑educational outreach programming to students, and collaborate with Student Wellness Center staff, Project Director for Prevention, Student Life Committee, and Wellness Committee on programming. Provide BASICS / CASICS and substance‑use assessment, education, referral, and care‑coordination support for Student Conduct, Athletics, and referrals from the Student Wellness Center. Participate in campus committees as assigned. Participate in weekly or bi‑monthly individual and group supervisory meetings. Provide consultation with collaborating campus departments, faculty, and staff. Assist in planning for present and future clinical mental health services and utilization of best‑practice and evidence‑based treatment models and initiatives. Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training as required. May serve in a confidential advising role as directed and in compliance with the Illinois Higher Education Act for students who are victims of gender‑based violence. Adhere to policies of the Center and University. Adhere to the ethics of the American Counseling Association. Provide other assigned functions that contribute to the service offerings of the Center and the mission of the University. Maintain appropriate malpractice and liability insurance. Other duties as assigned. Work Hours This position is 100% in‑person, 11 months (working part‑time in June and July) and will have responsibility to support students at all campus locations. Evening and weekend hours are required. Minimum Qualifications Completed graduate degree program in Counseling or a related discipline. Minimum of two years of clinical mental health counseling experience. Current second‑level licensure (LCPC under the State of Illinois). Demonstrated competence with a diverse student population. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of college student development theories and practice. Demonstrated experience providing clinical services with a wide range of presenting issues, including assessment, risk management, and treatment of serious mental health concerns (e.g., suicide risk assessment). Demonstrated knowledge and skill in crisis intervention, trauma‑informed response to gender‑based violence, program development, consultation, and outreach. Demonstrated competence with multicultural and other diverse populations. If requested to serve as campus confidential advisory role for Title IX, completion of an approved 40‑hour training in sexual violence pertaining to the role.
