Specialist, Financial - Actuarial

Job Description Summary As a Technical Specialist in Finance at Nationwide, you will bring strong technical skills to implement new products, maintain the in‑force block of business, and collaborate with IT, actuarial teams, and key business stakeholders. The role is part of the Life In‑force Management team, working on reinsurance, key value auditing, and policy review. Key Responsibilities Compile, categorize, and analyze data with limited supervision. Assist in building sophisticated testing tools and analysis of product calculations and illustrations. Assist with construction, maintenance, and execution of financial, actuarial, projection, and valuation models. Assist with financial reporting and analysis. Support pricing and implementation of products. Conduct analysis of risks for NF lines of business. Assist with valuation/reserving under multiple accounting regimes (statutory, GAAP, tax). Conduct analysis of reinsurance opportunities. Assist within specialty areas on data governance, strategy, modeling, manipulation, and requirements elicitation. Help design, develop, and implement new or modified applications, including coding and test plans. Support development of effective communication and recommendations to leadership; build supporting documentation if required. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships Financial Director – Actuarial or other financial/actuarial management. Typical Skills and Experiences Education/Knowledge: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a similar field requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis. License/Certification/Designation: May have passed several actuarial, LOMA, or other industry exams and may hold IT certifications. Experience: Two to four years of financial, actuarial, or relevant experience. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: General knowledge of finance or actuarial business functions, statistical analysis methods, financial or actuarial models, and related software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, VBA within Access and Excel, programming languages, and actuarial models. Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to deal with ambiguity, drive for results, and learning on the fly. Values Regularly and consistently demonstrates the Nationwide Values.
