Specialist - PL Actuarial State Pricing

Role Overview Perform complex mathematical and quantitative analyses for P&C products, participate in a rotation program, and develop actuarial methodologies. General Actuarial Support Develop business relationships across multi‑channel finance. Assist with transactional pricing and loss rating. Engage in data analysis. Must‑Have Skills Proficiency in actuarial methodologies and data analysis. Strong communication skills for presenting findings to technical and non‑technical audiences. Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Key Responsibilities Generate actuarial pricing analysis alongside pricing leadership to support state and line level business decisions, including analysis of rate and non‑rate strategies to manage profitability. Continue to deepen knowledge of actuarial methodologies, enabling the sourcing and manipulation of more complex data. Conduct analyses that adhere to actuarial standards by selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, and developing recommendations; note and suggest potential resolutions to any unreasonable results and report to leadership. Accurately document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion. Prepare and present actuarial findings and documents suitable for technical and non‑technical audiences. Adhere to assigned work schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects; notify leadership of any missed deadlines and impacts. Perform peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work, and drive innovation. Continue to develop business relationships across P&C multi‑channel finance and begin developing relationships in other finance areas to gain business acumen. Assist with onboarding and training new associates on standard work processes. Use data mining techniques to identify new relationships in data; build models in different software packages; explore new software packages; possess basic knowledge of predictive modeling. Preferred Skills And Experience Experience with Python or R. Typically 1–3 years of proven experience in P&C insurance focused on pricing. Open to students taking actuarial exams; role will provide support for exams, including study time, materials, and exam fees. Work Arrangements Staffed at the F pay band; located in Columbus (OH) or Des Moines (IA). Hybrid work arrangement of at least two days per week in‑office and up to three days remotely. Can be staffed in other locations for existing Nationwide associates already working elsewhere. As an Actuarial Specialist, you’ll gain a thorough knowledge of our actuarial functions for P&C products and perform increasingly complex quantitative analyses that are crucial to Nationwide’s success. This position offers participation in the P&C Actuarial Rotation Program—two to three rotations of two years each—providing exposure to various actuarial, analytics, and risk management teams. Full program details will be provided upon your start date. Reporting Relationships Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader. Typical Skills And Experiences Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis. Education Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a similar background. License/Certification/Designation Generally, has passed four or more actuarial exams and is actively enrolled in the Actuarial Student Program. Experience Generally, three or more years of actuarial experience. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills General knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, actuarial models, actuarial software, and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office, analytical software, and programming languages. Should have basic competencies including business understanding, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results, and learning ability.
