Assistant Project Manager (Heavy Civil / Roadway) MasTec Civil is hiring an Assistant Construction Project Manager to join our growing team in Tampa, FL on a new highway improvement project! Overview The Assistant Project Manager bears responsibility to oversee that the construction is performed according to specification, in the most efficient manner according to schedule and under budget. The Assistant Project Manager is expected, among other things, to follow all project related procedures and company policy. To accomplish these expectations the following procedures and guidelines have been established to facilitate the process.

Responsibilities Planning and Scheduling : Make a thorough study of the project to be performed. Discuss plans, schedules, details issues and any other items with the Management team. Assess needs fully including personnel, equipment, materials, etc. and determine the best course of action, continuing planning throughout the project. Prepare Field Office Site Plan, Trailers, Permits and Fees, Establishing Utilities, Employee Parking, Temp. Roads, Lay Down Areas, Tool Cribs, Insurance & Bonds, Safety & First Aid. Project Coordination : Represent the Company at the project, attend all progress meetings with the Owner/Engineer and ensure that all required documents are submitted to the Owner on time. Conduct internal scheduling meetings with Superintendents, Foremen and Subcontractors regularly to coordinate work areas, labor, equipment, material and survey needs. Conduct Pre-Activity Meetings prior to significant items of work to discuss responsibilities, means & methods, MOT requirements, safety, quality control, etc. Personnel Selection : Coordinate selection of key project level employees with the Human Resources Department. As field office head, ensure company policies are enforced. Supervise Project Engineer and other engineering staff, coordinate hiring of outside Specialty Engineers, and serve as a mentor to young engineers. Contract Documents : Familiarize yourself with contract, specifications, plans, addendums, revisions, special provisions, permits, utility relocation schedules, etc. Review and approve invoices, subcontractor payments and timesheets. Study each cost report in detail and note all variances. Cost Control : Manage the project’s budget, discuss variances with the Estimator, understand pay item estimate worksheets, evaluate cost effectiveness, and avoid unplanned occurrences. Ensure change orders and claims are properly documented and submitted to the Owner on time. Provide monthly Project Status Report and ensure cost reports reflect actual field performance. Subcontractor / Vendor Management : Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors, ensure timely payment per subcontract requirements, and manage claims, change orders and disputes. Documentation : Ensure all project team members submit required documentation (daily reports, accident reports, T&M Sheets). Keep a detailed daily Diary, photograph the project, file meeting minutes, and notify the client of inaccuracies. Public Relations : Serve as the top official on the project for negotiations and represent the company with integrity and professionalism. Safety : Ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety regulations, monitor enforcement, and interface with the Company’s Safety Manager. Lead the project with strong leadership, common sense, training, loyalty, patience, and effective teamwork. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Minimum five years of experience in the heavy construction industry. Must have bridge, roadwork, and DOT experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Understanding of construction means and methods in the heavy construction industry. Strong team leadership and project management skills. Experience leading multi-disciplined teams. Ability to direct subcontractors to achieve project goals. Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project scheduling (P-3 at minimum). Ability to maintain onsite project documentation. Ability to schedule and coordinate all site work. Well organized and detail oriented. Ability to multitask and manage multiple sites. Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with people at all levels and maintain high communication standards. Highly motivated, driven and results oriented.
