The Role at a Glance

As a Sr. Group Underwriter on the Specialty Health team, you will underwrite new and existing business for Lincoln's Supplemental Health (Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity) products. You'll assess risk, develop pricing recommendations, and support profitable growth and customer retention through sound underwriting decisions.

This role offers the opportunity to work independently on more complex underwriting assignments while partnering with Sales, Account Management, Product, Pricing, and Operations teams to drive business results. You'll build strong relationships, influence underwriting outcomes, contribute to process improvements, and continue to grow your technical and industry expertise.

What you'll be doing

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and amendments for Supplemental Health products
• Manage an assigned in-force book of business
• Assess risk by evaluating group characteristics, demographics, participation, benefit design, claims experience, and other underwriting factors
• Perform experience rating and collaborate with actuarial partners to evaluate pricing and risk
• Apply underwriting guidelines, authority limits, and pricing methodologies to determine appropriate coverage terms and rates
• Make underwriting decisions within assigned authority and recommend actions requiring additional review or approval
• Prepare and communicate underwriting analyses, pricing recommendations, and renewal strategies to business partners
• Support the RFP process, including responding to underwriting requirements and completing submissions through third-party platforms
• Collaborate with Sales, Account Management, Product, Pricing, Operations, and underwriting partners across product lines to develop coordinated customer solutions
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, support the development of underwriting expertise across the team, and serve as a trusted resource on underwriting strategies and risk assessment
• Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes, tools, and reporting capabilities

What we’re looking for

Must-Haves:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of degree)
• 4+ years of Supplemental Health underwriting experience
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Nice-to-have:

• Expertise in experience rating and renewal underwriting

The pay range for this position is $84,375 - $135,000 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
