AI Governance Attorney

Overview

AI Governance Attorney sought on behalf of a New York-Based investment and technology development firm.

The firm seeks a talented attorney to join its Legal & Compliance group, focusing on the development and oversight of the firm’s AI governance and compliance frameworks. Working within a collaborative and fast-paced environment, this individual will play a key role in supporting the firm’s responsible adoption of AI across a range of business functions. The position offers the opportunity to engage with innovative technologies and complex regulatory challenges, partnering with colleagues across the firm to ensure compliance with evolving legal and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with business teams, investment professionals, and technologists to identify and address legal and regulatory risks associated with AI adoption and use.
• Develop, implement, and maintain AI governance and compliance frameworks, including forward-looking work on emerging areas such as agentic AI.
• Advise on compliance and governance requirements for integrating AI tools and products into the business.
• Review and assess AI-related vendor relationships, data use, and workflow integration and ensure alignment with applicable regulations and firm policies.
• Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments in AI and help shape the firm’s approach to responsible and compliant AI innovation.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• A law degree, an impressive record of academic achievement, and at least four years of experience in-house and/or at a law firm; more senior candidates, including those with 15+ years of experience, are also encouraged to apply. 
• Experience reviewing and negotiating licensing, technology, and other commercial contracts, as well as advising clients on intellectual property issues and contract interpretation. 
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 
• Excellent analytical abilities, sound judgment, keen attention to detail, an impressive work ethic, and proven drafting, communication, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with commercial software and financial and/or market data licenses is preferred; experience with issues relating to open source software and/or generative artificial intelligence is a plus, but not required.

Company Benefits

The expected annual base salary for this position is $250,000 to $325,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
