Shipping/Receiving AssistantValmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Shipping/Receiving Assistant position in the Petersburg, Virginia Coatings site. This is an individual contributor who will assist with receiving, unloading, and storing incoming products; inspecting finished products for damage and defects; ensuring all products meet established quality standards prior to distribution. They will operate heavy equipment used to move material including forklifts and pallet jacks. Incumbent will assist with detailed intake inspections of incoming materials, including measurements, photographic records, and written documentation, while creating material tags and maintaining accurate electronic records. Incumbent will assist with inspecting galvanized products to ensure a high-quality finished product and making recommendations to resolve any damage or defects found in products. Interact professionally with customers and truck drivers to facilitate efficient loading and unloading operations; coordinate special handling requirements identified during inspections; maintain plant cleanliness and organization through routine housekeeping; and consistently follow safety procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE). Incumbent will assist with inspecting galvanized products to ensure a high-quality finished product and making recommendations to resolve any damage or defects found in products. Also, working closely with other employees to resolve any issues concerning customer orders. When not involved with activities associated with the shipping / receiving of materials; the incumbent will be utilized in other areas of the facility as needed to assist with the production of galvanized materials. These departments can include rigging, process tanks, kettle, and dressing departments.Essential Functions:Operate forklifts with the capacity to move up to 35,000 lbs. of material on and off flatbed trailers or box trucks when applicable.Communicating potential problems or needs with material to site leadershipInspect incoming material for proper venting and draining holes/lifting attachmentsInspect galvanized material to ensure it meets the quality standards, reject material that does not meet quality standards, and coordinate special handling for this materialMove pieces of steel and other material up to 50 pounds by hand from different locations in the plant and yardRequired Qualifications for Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)Zero (0) to (1) year of relevant experienceAbility to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, saws, drills, riveters, and nail gunsAbility to become certified in operation of overhead cranes and/or forkliftsAbility to ensure that products meet quality standardsAbility to bundle, crate, box, and wrap products to be shippedAbility to load a truckAbility to operate computer to enter product informationHigh School Diploma or GED equivalentExcellent communication and customer service skillsMust have a pleasant and friendly "can do" attitudeAbility to be exposed to outdoors elements for significant durations of timeAbility to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when inside the production facilityMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional resultsMust be able to read and follow written and verbal instructions.Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These QualificationsTwo (2) years of experience operating a forklift in a professional environmentAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
