Position Overview STDT SVC MGR 1 – Career Development & Alumni Services (Full‑time, Exempt) Position number: 40036237 • Job ID: 87051 • Job code 0322 • Location: Bren Hall 2520, UCSB Campus • Department: ESMS (Dean‑School of Environmental Science & Management) Working days: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm • Salary: $88,000–$120,000 / yr (budgeted). Full range: $88,000–$161,600 / yr. Full benefits eligibility. Key Responsibilities Serve as a principal staff administrative officer for the Bren School, overseeing career development, alumni relations, employer relations, and professional development programs that serve 200+ graduate students, 1,500+ alumni, and hundreds of employers. Manage the Corporate Partners Program and all alumni‑related development activities, making strategic decisions, setting long‑term goals, approving policies, and supervising staff. Develop and implement career services programs for the MESM, MEDS, and PhD tracks, including workshops, job‑search coaching, resume and cover‑letter design, networking, salary negotiations, and placement reporting. Lead and supervise the career development teams, writing annual performance evaluations, establishing goals, and delegating responsibilities to directors. Participate in senior management teams, contributing to strategic planning, budgeting, diversity‑inclusion initiatives, and school‑wide projects such as reviews, audits, and retreats. Collaborate with faculty, student affairs, and other university units to integrate career guidance into the curriculum and promote the Bren School through marketing, public relations, and alumni engagement. Support the development team in fundraising, donor stewardship, and corporate‑sponsor relationships, coordinating special opportunities and sustainability initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training in career counseling, business, environmental science & management, or human resources management. 7–9 years of experience in career counseling, job placement, recruitment, or hiring. 7–9 years of experience working with students through all stages of the job‑search process (career exploration, visioning, resume/cover‑letter design, networking, interviewing, salary negotiations). Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree preferred. Expert oral and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, advising, and counseling. Expert ability to lead, motivate, and supervise staff. Expert strategic planning, creative thinking, problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution. Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality. Solid knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, assessment, analytics, visual communication, email and document management tools. Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources, and financial principles and practices. Demonstrated commitment to a high level of customer service. Knowledge of UCSB policies, systems, and software. Special Conditions of Employment Satisfactory completion of a conviction‑history background check. UCSB is a tobacco‑free environment.
