Surface Water Plant Manager

Position The City of Sugar Land seeks a full-time Surface Water Plant Manager in the Utilities Department. Starting salary: $87,485 – $100,607 depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits At-A-Glance City-subsidized Medical and Dental Insurance with a variety of plan options City-paid Basic Life Insurance at 1x your annual salary and Long-term Disability Voluntary Vision, Supplemental Life Coverage (for you and your family), Aflac indemnity plans such as Accident, Cancer, Hospitalization and Critical Illness, Short Term Disability and pre-paid legal benefits through Legal Shield 9 paid holidays and up to 3 floating holidays to use at your discretion Generous vacation package with accruals starting on day 1 Paid sick leave Paid parental leave Robust pension plan with TMRS includes your 7% contribution with 2:1 match by the City Contribution to a Deferred Compensation (457b) plan is available for retirement income Longevity pay for each month of service after your first 13 months of employment On-site Wellness facilities and programming (mind, body, spirit & financial preparedness) Access to multiple mental health benefits and resources, including a robust EAP Responsibilities Operate, repair and maintain the City’s Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) Recruit, hire, onboard and manage assigned City staff’s training and professional development Assign work priorities and standards for City staff and contractors to accomplish repair and preventive maintenance programs within service levels Ensure division compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements and procedures Ensure compliance with industry standard safety requirements Assist in preparing the annual surface water operations and maintenance budget to achieve key performance indicators Manage the division operations and maintenance budget for the current fiscal year in compliance with City policies and procedures Develop, manage and renew surface water treatment service and supply contracts; track progress to ensure contract compliance; review and approve invoices, compare expenditures to budget, and resolve issues Manage operations, preventive maintenance, and repairs of assigned vehicles, heavy equipment and other rolling stock in collaboration with Fleet Services Control inventory of all surface water division parts, tools, equipment, computers, tablets, phones, software, security devices and related items Formal Education Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management or related field, from an accredited institution (preferred) High school Diploma or GED required More than 5 years of direct supervisory experience in surface water production operations may substitute for a degree Relatable Work Experience Minimum 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in surface water treatment facility operations required Municipal experience is a plus Training (License and/or Certification) Current Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class A Water Operator license required Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required The City of Sugar Land is an equal Opportunity employer. #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Sugar Land
