Your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
- Independently prepare and cook a variety of items for regular and therapeutic diets (diabetic, low sodium, low protein, gluten free, etc.) entrees and dessert items
- Prepare different types of food using various methods such as braise, broil, simmer, bake, fry, steam, stew, and grill.
- Cook foods to proper temperatures and maintain proper food temperatures during holding, re-heating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety.
- Wash, peel, and cut fruits and vegetables; set up and replenish a salad bar.
- Make a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries.
- Weigh, measure, and assemble ingredients for regular and modified menu items.
- Cover, label, and date food items according to established policies and procedures.
- Clean and sanitize work areas and perform deep cleaning tasks when needed; sweep and mop floors; clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, work surfaces, tables and utensils; and clean kettles, ranges, ovens, and other equipment.
- Operate a variety of kitchen equipment and follow appropriate safety procedures.
- Track students' meal plan usage by counting the number of purchased dinners.
