Medical Physics Faculty Position

The Department of Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to join the Medical Physics Section.

The selected candidate will provide comprehensive clinical support for diagnostic imaging services, including quality assurance and quality control, equipment performance evaluation, regulatory compliance, and optimization of imaging protocols. Additional responsibilities include teaching and mentoring radiology residents, medical physics trainees, technologists, medical students, and radiologic technology students, while contributing to the department's clinical, educational, and academic missions. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Participation in the medical physics section's support of all imaging equipment: oversight of quality control, participation in equipment selection, development of purchase specifications, acceptance tests of imaging equipment, dosimetry, and resolution of imaging problems. The quality control program includes all modalities. Active involvement in the ACR accreditation programs for imaging equipment. Performance evaluations of all imaging equipment in compliance with ACR recommendations, The Joint Commission standards and State regulations. Collaboration with Radiology faculty and QC staff to monitor image quality, refine clinical protocols, and promote best practices across all imaging modalities. Clinical support for the Radiation Safety Program, including oversight of patient dose optimization, staff radiation protection, regulatory compliance, and participation in Radiation Safety Committee activities. Monitoring and analysis of patient dose, including CT dose management and fluoroscopic skin dose evaluations using Imologix dose tracking software. Development and participation in departmental quality improvement initiatives as opportunities and needs arise.

Participation in imaging physics instruction of diagnostic radiology residents, technologists and technology students. Resident education consists of a structured imaging physics curriculum, including didactic lectures and hands-on lab activities. Faculty members are expected to participate in scholarly activities appropriate to their appointment.

Ph.D. or MS in medical physics, engineering, or a related physical science and ABR board certification/eligibility in Diagnostic Medical Physics. Experience in nuclear medicine is preferred.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time. Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds. Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data. Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
