Registered Nurse Step Down

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Step Down unit provides skilled nursing care for patients requiring close monitoring in a short-term acute care setting. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The nurse will float between units as needed and maintain a patient ratio of 1:4, working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on adherence to hospital protocols and dress code standards. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor clinical status in the Step Down unit.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and document accurately.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Provide patient education and support to patients and families regarding care and treatment plans.
• Adhere to hospital policies, including dress code and EPIC documentation hardstop requirements.
• Float between units as assigned to meet patient care needs.
• Maintain a patient ratio of 1:4 to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with clinical standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience, preferably in acute care or step down settings.
• Proficiency in clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system and compliance with hardstop documentation.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in trauma or critical care units.
• Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or CCRN.
• Previous experience floating between multiple nursing units.

Special Considerations:

• No on-call requirements.
• Every other weekend work is required.
• Block schedules are not required.
• Position may float between units depending on patient census and staffing needs.
• Dress code for licensed nursing personnel is solid navy blue uniforms or scrub attire with no print tops, except for designated areas.
• Short-term contract with potential for extension prior to holidays.
• Approved for up to 48 working hours per week.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments include weekends every other weekend.
• Schedules are not based on block scheduling.
• Shift times and rotations determined by unit staffing needs and hospital policies.
