LEAD, CENTER SUPPORT

Position Summary The Center Support Lead for the Center for Metabolic and Liver Diseases serves as a strategic and operational leader in the development, submission, and management of complex research grants. Supporting the Scientific Research Office and Research Development Office, this role facilitates pre‑award processes such as proposal development, budget preparation, and compliance coordination. Post‑award responsibilities include progress reporting, regulatory compliance, oversight of consortium documentation, and serving as the primary liaison for external sponsors and institutional leadership. The position also manages Center events, meetings, and communications to support the research enterprise. Duties and Responsibilities Pre‑Award Grant Administration Develop strategic proposals aligned with funding announcements in support of the Offices Assist with project timelines, checklist development, detailed budgets, and justifications Draft administrative portions of proposals and proofread, format, and edit complex proposals Solicit and verify required documents from consortia and collaborators Identify funding opportunities that support the Center’s research goals and use SPIN to target opportunities for center researchers Review FOAs for detailed eligibility requirements and disseminate targeted opportunities based on center focus Coordinate with PIs on funding opportunity notifications, submission plans, and Letters of Intent preparation Assist PIs and key personnel with NIH Biographical Sketch Common Form and Current and Pending Support via NIH SciENcv Post‑Award Administration and Compliance Prepare grant progress and final reports Verify patent and invention information and ensure compliance with NIH Public Access Policy Manage consortium relationships, agreements, subcontracts, and study section review dates Draft submission emails for the Scientific Review and manage Just‑In‑Time responses, including collaborator document collection Assist with complex compliance submissions (IACUC, IRB, ACURO, HRPO) and ongoing communications with the PI on project award timelines Coordinate with PI and SRO on necessary prior approvals and collaborator approval documents for multi‑PI grants Leadership and Team Management Supervise administrative staff, oversee workload distribution, quality control, and conflict resolution Manage Time & Effort Certification for Center administrative staff Educate RAPs, admins, staff scientists, and graduate students on basic grant processes Provide performance evaluations of Center staff with PI input and design process improvements Serve as primary liaison with external sponsors, collaborators, and the Center Director on administrative matters Event and Meeting Management Supervise PI‑sponsored meetings and seminars, including logistics and on‑site execution from inception to close Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field (required) Advanced degree preferred Experience Seven years’ experience with research administration, including proposal preparation, funding agency requirements, and budgets (required) Two years’ supervisory/management experience (required) Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong analytical, time‑management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Sound judgement and ability to switch between tasks and prioritize workload Independent work ability and strong problem‑solving skills Attention to detail and ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office (Office 365 or 2016 preferred) including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Capacity to learn department‑specific software tools Supervisory Responsibilities Direct: Yes Indirect: None Location This is an onsite position; candidates must be willing to work onsite in San Diego. Compensation Expected hiring range: $71,300 - $84,932 per year, commensurate with experience.
