The Lead – Count Room is responsible for assisting in the supervision and execution of the drop and count processes across all gaming areas. This position ensures the integrity of currency handling and accurate reporting of financial data. In the absence of the Count Room Supervisor, the Lead assumes leadership responsibilities to oversee daily operations and uphold internal control standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains a comprehensive understanding of Gaming Commission laws, rules, and regulations, as well as all applicable company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all count room transactions and processes.
• Opens table game drop boxes using authorized keys, empties contents—including game openers and closers—onto the count table, and assists in sorting, bundling, and stacking currency and chips.
• Opens and closes slot machine doors, moves chairs to access equipment, and communicates courteously with guests as needed.
• Pushes, pulls, and loads heavy carts containing slot currency boxes in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Completes the Master Game Report accurately and records each game’s win/loss data.
• Verifies that all required documentation is properly completed at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Counts and verifies currency collected from slot machine bill acceptor boxes, table game drop boxes, food & beverage banks, poker tables, and other designated sources.
• Lifts, moves, and secures chip and cash boxes as part of routine count operations.
• Works cooperatively in a confined workspace alongside other team members to complete time-sensitive tasks.
• Acts as Supervisor in the absence of the Count Room Supervisor, assisting in the oversight of daily operations, including the drop and count process.
• Provides management with timely and accurate financial information as needed.
• Has sufficient knowledge of operation of “Cummins” currency counters
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned to support the success of the count room and overall gaming operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and operational information.
• Experience operating Cummins coin counting equipment or similar currency processing machinery.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting financial data related to assets, liabilities, and capital; capable of preparing accurate profit and loss (P&L) statements.
• Working knowledge of fundamental accounting principles and practices.
• Skilled in the use of personal computers and a variety of related software applications.
• Proficient in spreadsheets, databases, and mainframe systems within a Windows-based environment.
• Familiarity with applicable federal and state tax laws and financial regulations.
• Ability to review, understand, and process complex paperwork and documentation with accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
• Able to interact with staff and the public in a tactful, diplomatic, and respectful manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in count room operations, cash handling, or auditing.
• At least 1 year of experience in a lead or supervisory role within a secure, high-volume environment.
• Strong knowledge of count room procedures, internal controls, and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in operating count room equipment such as currency counters and coin sorters.
• Prior experience in a regulated industry such as gaming, banking, or secure cash services preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

• Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with count team members, supervisors, surveillance, and auditing staff; responsible for giving clear instructions and reporting discrepancies both verbally and in writing.
• Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts and transports drop boxes, coin bags, and currency canisters weighing up to 50 pounds; may be required to push or pull heavy carts during retrieval and transport operations.
• Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to operate money counting machines, sort currency and vouchers, secure locks, and manage reporting tools with accuracy and efficiency.
• Mobility: Frequently walks, bends, lifts, and stands throughout the shift while overseeing and participating in box drops, cash transport, and counting procedures.
• Stationary Work: Frequently remains standing at count stations or machines for extended periods; occasional seated work while reconciling reports and reviewing count records.
• Tool Operation: Regular use of coin sorters, currency counters, key boxes, secure carts, computer systems, radio devices, and surveillance-monitored security tools.
• Visual Acuity: Requires close vision, color recognition, and attention to detail to accurately count currency, verify vouchers, read count summaries, and detect discrepancies or counterfeit items.
• Working Conditions: Routinely operates in high-security count room and drop environments under constant surveillance; exposed to repetitive machine noise, physically demanding tasks, and a smoking environment in adjacent casino areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.                           

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
