Corrections Officer
Job Summary
Corrections Officers are responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within the correctional facility. The role requires strong communication, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to manage challenging situations. Experienced officers may also mentor and support newer staff.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Pay: $22.03/hour
- Pay may increase based on corrections experience, certifications, and specialized credentials.
- 10% shift differential for evening/night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise inmates and maintain facility security.
- Manage daily inmate activities, including meals, recreation, and work assignments.
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and safety concerns.
- Prepare accurate incident reports and daily logs.
- Communicate professionally with inmates, staff, and visitors.
- Apply safety procedures and support training and development of newer officers.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license.
- No felony convictions; misdemeanors require approval.
- Strong communication, conflict-management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Ability to work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
Hiring Process
Candidates are evaluated based on education, experience, application responses, and supplemental questions. Application responses make up 100% of the final evaluation score . A minimum interview score of 70 is required for appointment eligibility, with the five highest-ranking candidates referred for final selection.
Conditional-offer candidates must successfully complete a drug test and background check . The drug test must be completed within 48 hours of receiving the offer.
