As a Procurement Transplant Coordinator, you will provide primary medical care to authorized organ donors in hospital Intensive Care Units and OneLegacy recovery facilities. The care consists of managing hemodynamics and pulmonary function to secure perfusion and oxygenation to the lifesaving organs for transplant.

Work Hours: 12-hour shifts; 7 days in a two week period, including alternating weekends. Nights!
Work Setting: In-person and Donor Service Area

Travel: Employees are required to travel within our service area.
Summary of Functions:
The Procurement Transplant Coordinator I (PTC-I) is the clinical professional responsible for all aspects of the organ procurement process at a hospital within OneLegacy's DSA and at a OneLegacy Recovery Center. The PTC-I's responsibility begins with assisting hospitals to identify and report potential donor referrals and proceeds through the organ recovery procedure. The PTC-I is responsible for reinforcing and supporting all processes of donation as outlined in the UAGA (Uniform Anatomical Gift Act). The clinical element requires direct medical donor care, with an emphasis on assessment, resuscitation, physiologic management, organ allocation, documentation, packaging and labeling of organs for transplant or research at the time of recovery. The PTC-I directs the medical treatment regimen to meet the assessed needs of the donor in accordance with established medical practices, the donor requirements, policies & procedures, and the practices and goals of OneLegacy. The PTC-I will identify and support the psychosocial needs of donor families and loved ones with direct aid from OneLegacy family support teams. Administrative, training, and regulatory responsibilities are included within this vital role at OneLegacy. The PTC-I will support hospital development in his/her assigned hospitals and conduct professional and public education presentations about organ, eye and tissue donation. The PTC-I is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties.

Referral Management Process:
1. Responds promptly and appropriately to potential donor referrals to assess suitability and enhance the donation process. 2. Establishes and enhances relationships with the hospital staff to increase referral activity. 3. Introduces oneself to the referred patient's bedside Nurse and the units Charge Nurse to establish presence. When leaving, advises the bedside Nurse and Charge Nurse of impending departure and inquire if there is anything needed before leaving the facility. 4. Collaborates with the RTS (Referral Triage Specialist), CRS (Clinical Resource Specialist), SOP (on call Supervisor of Organ Procurement), Medical Director of Referral Management and/or clinical leadership to manage active referrals. 5. Accesses and reviews the referring hospital's medical records charts. Transcribe appropriate information to digitalDONOR fields per OneLegacy policies and practices. 6. Consults with hospital staff to evaluate current organ function and identify early stages of medical derangements and current organ function. 7. Formulates a treatment plan at the direction of the Medical Director of Referral Management. Advocates on behalf of potential donors and their families for interventions needed to preserve the opportunity for donation and optimize organ function. 8. Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the attending physician, transplant physician, Medical Director, consulting Intensivist and CRS concerning the status and care of the donor, as appropriate. 9. Develops and communicates a plan for continuity of care along with the progression of the referral. 10. Reviews medical-legal documentation pertaining to brain death declaration for completeness and accuracy according to hospital policy, California Health and Safety codes and current American Association of Neurology Guidelines. When revisions are needed, provides direction to appropriately complete documentation. Sends acceptable brain death documentation to the RTS and CRS to be verified per OneLegacy policy. 11. Performs administrative duties regarding the patient, such as completing digitalDONOR charting, as well as any other forms or documentation required per OneLegacy documentation policies and/or hospital policies. 12. Implements and maintains established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control; reports these to the transplant center, physician, resident, family members and public, as appropriate.
Family Support Process: 1. Identifies AP (Authorizing Party) and language requirements. Documents pertinent family dynamics and any other relevant information needed to properly assess the AP and/or family members of potential donors in preparation for approach. 2. Collaborates with the hospital care team, the RTS and/or the Family Care Specialist Resources (FCSR) in the end-of-life discussion to ensure the AP is provided with the opportunity for donation in the most appropriate manner. 3. Discusses the elements of authorization with the AP and/or family members of potential donors. 4. Obtains authorization for donation per UAGA and verifies medical-legal documentation necessary for organ recovery is complete according to OneLegacy policies and procedures. 5. Completes Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) and obtains any required follow-up information.
Organ Donation Process: 1. Responds to donor referrals or assigned donor cases at shift start time unless otherwise instructed by CRS/RTS. 2. Obtains accurate medical information for evaluation and evaluates potential organ and tissue donors according to OneLegacy, regulatory and/or credentialing body guidelines. 3. Discusses and supports the donation process with family members or Authorizing/Acknowledging Party (AP). 4. Coordinates all aspects of donor management. 5. Assures accuracy and completeness of charting in the hospital and OneLegacy Electronic Medical Record systems. 6. Collaborates with Medical Examiner/Coroners, tissue recovery staff, hospital staff, social services and clergy. 7. Coordinates the logistics for multiple organ procurements and allocation cases. Maintains consistent and clear communication with Donor Allocation Coordinator (DAC) regarding organ allocation. 8. Verifies that all medical-legal documentation necessary for organ procurement is completed according to OneLegacy, governing and/or credentialing body guidelines. 9. Provides organ allocation staff with organ/donor information, as required. 10. Responsible for all chart documentation in the OR during recovery and post recovery including review and completion of Confidential Donor File (CDF) at the conclusion of each completed case.
Donation Development Process: 1. Reviews Not Brain Dead Status Board (NBD) when in a hospital for an active referral. Conduct a site visit on NBD referrals and chart in EMR system. 2. Participates in "Presence with a Purpose" in collaboration with the Donation Development Coordinator (DDC) to educate hospitals on the donation process along with current and upcoming donation related events. 3. Coordinates and conduct scheduled education on donation and transplantation in partnership with the DDC in assigned hospital(s). 4. Participates in OneLegacy signature events such as: OneLegacy Donation and Transplantation Symposium, Donate Life RunWalk, etc. as requested. 5. Promotes positive relationships with all hospital and clinical staff. 6. Participates in hospital meetings to assist with presenting information or addressing issues relating to the donation process. 7. Joins hospital sponsored clinical rounds and/or conducts other case-finding activities. 8. Debriefs Donation Development Coordinator (DDC) after a case, as
OneLegacy Recovery Center Responsibilities: The PTC-I will be required to achieve PTC-II status though demonstrated proficiency and documented competencies in all organ operations at the OneLegacy's recovery center (Appendix A) within 24-months of hire date of employment. Personnel Functions: 1. Maintains professional conduct at all times with both internal and external customers. 2. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve company objectives and maintains good employee, interdepartmental and public relations. 3. Meets with and solicits advice from the Medical Director(s), Director of Organ Clinical Operations, Supervisor, Donor Management, SOP (Supervisor on call), CRS, Transplant Centers, Attending Physicians, Director of Nursing Services and Nursing Staff concerning donor patient care. 4. Maintains an effective and friendly working relationship with health professionals, physicians, consultants and family members involved in every donation process.
Work Schedule Responsibility: 1. Shares schedule responsibility with other assigned PTC-I staff (seven 12-hour shifts per pay period every two weeks). 2. Additional work time and shifts are assigned, as needed, to uphold OneLegacy's mission. 3. Will be required to travel within OneLegacy's Donor Service Area to respond to a referral/donor case or other OneLegacy business. 4. Gives verbal report to oncoming OneLegacy staff when assignment is completed. 5. Carries OneLegacy issued electronic devices and appropriate case materials on scheduled work shifts and ensure that all equipment is working properly. 6. Enables and ensures location services on OneLegacy issued devices work properly during scheduled shifts.
Other Responsibilities: 1. Stays professionally current as required for assigned job function, certification or licensure. 2. Complies with all UNOS policies, standards and requirements. 3. Attends staff meetings and scheduled trainings unless on call, post-call or protected time off (UPTO/PTO, bereavement, jury duty, etc.) as deemed necessary by Leadership. 4. Supports the organization's Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in OneLegacy Policies and Procedures and is the example of OneLegacy's mission, vision and values. 5. Observes a code of ethics that requires truthfulness, honesty and personal integrity in all activities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative, judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority. 2. Ability to keep accurate records, perform statistical analyses and interpret data. 3. Keyboarding skills for using a personal computer. 4. Interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with all levels of management, staff, medical professionals, hospital staff and to work within the individual guidelines of OneLegacy affiliated community donor hospitals, organ transplantation centers, eye and tissue banks. 5. Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to include the ability to make public presentations. 6. Instructional skills in written and verbal form. 7. Ability to perform patient transfers and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. 8. Ability to function as an effective and competent team member. 9. Maintain confidentiality of all information pertinent to organ, eye and tissue donors and recipients, OneLegacy staff, OneLegacy affiliated donor hospitals and affiliated processors.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: RN or RT (Bachelor's degree preferred). Candidates who are not a licensed RN or RT will be considered for the position of PTC-I at the discretion of the COO/CIO. Experience: Critical Care patient management (ICU, OR, ER, pre-hospital) experience required. Certification/License: Required to be a PTC-I II within 24-months of hire date of employment. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required at the time of employment. Required to be Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified within the employees orientation period. OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver's license and vehicle insurance. Equipment: Must be able to use office equipment, including personal computer, fax machine, calculator, photocopier/scanner, cell phone and audio/visual equipment. Reliable automotive transportation required.
Salary Range: $84,788.34 - $108,879.23
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, OneLegacy considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
