Duties

• Advise clients on state and local tax planning, compliance, and policy matters

• Handle tax controversy and litigation matters involving state and local tax disputes

• Conduct legal research and analysis related to SALT regulations and tax developments

• Assist with transactional tax structuring and planning strategies

• Draft legal memoranda, opinions, and client communications

• Represent clients in administrative proceedings and tax-related disputes

• Analyze income, franchise, sales and use, excise, and property tax matters

• Collaborate with attorneys and tax professionals across national practice teams

• Manage active client matters while maintaining strong client relationships

• Support clients with evolving tax compliance and regulatory obligations

Requirements

• 3–6 years of state and local tax experience in a law or accounting firm

• Experience handling SALT planning, compliance, and controversy matters

• Knowledge of income, franchise, sales and use, excise, and property taxes

• Strong academic credentials

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively within collaborative teams

• Strong client-service orientation

• California Bar preferred
