Director of Enrollment, Alpha - $250,000/year USD

In the Bay Area, the most effective admissions professionals rarely sell. They curate a waitlist, manage committee processes, and uphold a long-established institutional reputation. This role operates differently. In your territory, almost no family knows us yet. You will locate them yourself. Alpha is a K-12 private school founded on a demonstrable proposition: students finish core academics in two hours daily, progress faster than national norms, and dedicate their afternoons to practical skills instead of busywork. Bay Area parents represent both the most challenging and most valuable audience for that proposition. Founders, engineers, physicians, and investors will not settle for a friendly tour and a mission statement. They will demand the data, scrutinize the trade-offs, and evaluate us alongside Nueva, Castilleja, Harker, Marin Country Day, and Branson. Embrace that dialogue. Understand exactly what this entails. It is a sales position with a selectivity mandate. You create your own demand: preschool and feeder‑school connections, community alliances, local events, and referrals from families you have already won. You carry a growth target. You also tell a family "no" when the model does not fit their child, in a market where declining a well‑connected parent has real consequences. Both dimensions define the job. One poorly matched family in a small cohort costs more than an unfilled seat. In year one, you are the founding local representative of a campus with an emerging local brand, and most of your time is spent outside the building. As the campus grows, the work evolves. You transition from pursuing initial conversations to becoming the leader parents request by name, with a team beneath you and a playbook other campuses replicate. You work on-site at one campus (Palo Alto or San Rafael) five days weekly, present at drop‑off, pick‑up, and evening events. What You Will Be Doing Creating your own qualified family pipeline through preschool and feeder‑school connections, community alliances, referrals, and local events. Managing every phase independently: first inquiry, needs‑assessment dialogue, campus tour, student shadow day, enrollment decision, and onboarding. Conducting tours, open houses, and information sessions where you present an AI‑powered learning model to analytical, skeptical parents. Maintaining 7 or more active family relationships at various stages, each with a documented status and next action in HubSpot and our SIS (student information system). Delivering weekly reports on pipeline health and conversion quality, and revising the local admissions playbook, FAQs, and SOPs as you discover what succeeds in your market. What You Won’t Be Doing Managing a waitlist. There is no pre‑existing demand here. Channeling decisions through an admissions committee or layered approvals. Following a script or a quota‑driven call list. Transferring a family between four coordinators, an events team, and a front desk. Overseeing a large team or spending your week in internal meetings. Director Of Enrollment Key Responsibilities Increase enrollment at one Bay Area campus with families who will succeed in the Alpha model. Basic Requirements 3+ years in premium client‑facing roles where an individual or family was the buyer at $25K+ per client or $2K+ per month. You can identify the employer and price point; business‑to‑business or enterprise sales alone do not qualify. Personal accountability for an end‑to‑end client, admissions, or enrollment journey: application, needs assessment, offer, decision, and onboarding. What you accomplished, not what your team accomplished. A quantifiable growth or customer‑acquisition metric you owned, including how you generated leads and established local partnerships to achieve it. 7 or more simultaneous client or family relationships at different stages, tracked in a named CRM or database. A specific example of advising against your own product because it was not the right fit. Direct use of AI tools in a client‑facing workflow, such as meeting preparation, personalized outreach, conversation summaries, or follow‑up. Experience personally conducting in‑person tours, presentations, meetings, or hosted experiences for high‑net‑worth clients, senior executives, or similarly demanding audiences. Strong written and verbal communication with executive presence: you can identify needs, explain complex concepts simply, address objections, and lead high‑stakes decision conversations. Experience cultivating thoughtful, multi‑touch client relationships over several weeks, including maintaining engagement with prospects who do not immediately commit. You live in or will relocate within 60 days to Palo Alto, CA, or San Rafael, CA (Marin County). This role is fully on‑site, not hybrid. Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Nice‑to‑have Requirements An established network among Peninsula or Marin families, with connections at local private preschools or feeder schools. Admissions or enrollment experience at a selective independent K-12 school, or a program with more applicants than seats. Background in luxury hospitality, private client services, concierge medicine, private wealth, membership clubs, or high‑end residential real estate.
