Patient Access Representative (Part Time, Days)

Job Overview The Patient Access Representative is responsible for the entire scope of the registration process for patients seen at St. Luke's University Health Network, in outpatient and/or Emergency Department locations. Schedule and Location HOURS: Part Time, 20 hours per week. Days: every 3rd weekend, rotating Mondays and Fridays, and every Wednesday. Hours vary based on rotation: 3 pm-8 pm, 7 am-12 noon, or 12 noon-8 pm. Weekends are 8 am-4 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Opportunity to pick up additional hours if desired. Location: Macungie Care Now. Responsibilities Accurately identify and validate patients in the hospital information system to maintain electronic medical records integrity. Identify and report potential identity theft situations to clinical department and leadership for escalation. Maintain knowledge of network policy on Patient Identification, including Mark for Merge, Chart Corrections, and Patient Look‑Up. Perform patient registration (pre‑registration and post‑registration) including demographics, emergency contact, transcribing diagnostic orders, primary and referring provider information, diagnosis, insurance, guarantor verification, real‑time insurance eligibility, and point‑of‑service cash collections. Handle patient, account, and claim edit level work‑queue errors related to registration; contact provider office, review patient medical chart for diagnosis and medical necessity when required. Cross‑train in all areas of the location or region, including outpatient and Emergency Department areas. Welcome and direct patients and visitors, ensuring friendly and courteous service and enforcing visitor policy as applicable. Answer internal and external calls on the department/facility line and provide appropriate information about the facility and its services. Promote and support the use of MyChart patient portal and patient self‑service capabilities to encourage patient engagement. Assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology at network locations. Contact the SLPG practice or Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre‑certs when not documented in the chart before service, to reduce denials for lack of authorization. Obtain medical license number, NPI and UPIN for new outpatient providers through appropriate websites to ensure accurate routing and claim submission/payment. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent required; certificate/degree in a health‑care related field preferred. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Proficient computer skills and ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly. Insurance background preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Previous medical administrative experience and/or health‑care related education courses preferred. Knowledge of health information system (Epic) preferred. Physical and Sensory Requirements Sitting or standing up to 8 hours per day, with at least 4 hours at a time; frequent use of hands and fingers for data entry; frequent walking and ability to push a wheelchair up to 250 pounds; occasional ability to lift or carry up to 15 pounds.
