Job Description
Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with adult and geriatric patients, focusing on general medical-surgical care.

Required Skills / Certifications / Experience:

• BLS certification required
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a medical surgical setting
• First-time travelers accepted
• CPI certification preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred for night shift travelers

Job Details:

• Shift: 12-hour night shift from 18:45 to 07:15
• 36 and 48-hour contracts accepted
• Longer contracts available through 2/27/2026
• Call required as necessary
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations is required
• Every other weekend and holiday work required
• Patient ratio: 1:6

Contract Requirements:

Contract staff may be assigned to work with the Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Staff may also be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters. Consolidation to a centralized office during the contract may occur as needed.

Meetings:

All travelers and staff are required to attend unit team meetings, which are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month from January through October at 17:30. In November and December, meetings will take place on the third Wednesday of the month at 17:30. Additional meetings for night shift staff will be conducted at 07:30 on the Friday immediately following the Wednesday meetings.

Patient Diagnoses:

Providing care for adults and geriatrics with general medical-surgical diagnoses, with a daily census of approximately 43 patients.

Special Procedures / Unit Details:

• Heparin drips
• Wound vac dressing changes
• High flow oxygen administration
• Occasional use of short-term BiPap for respiratory support
• Standard medical-surgical nursing protocols with no PCU-level patients on this unit

Unit Systems:

• PYXIS for medication management
• EPIC for documentation
• SBAR for communication

Unit Orientation:

The orientation period consists of 24 hours of training to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and culture.

Scrubs:

Standard dress code requires navy scrubs.

Additional Notes:

• Staff must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty
• Staff must be available to work holidays
• Local candidates are accepted at a lower rate
