Field Safety Coordinator

What You Will Do Conduct walk‑through inspections of field job sites to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe acts performed by employees. Organize and prepare the delivery of safety meetings and training. Ensure employees follow safe work procedures as specified in OPD’s New Hire Orientation, toolbox meetings, and OSHA‑required training. Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous safety conditions and environmental risks. Make recommendations to correct unsafe conditions and actions. Respond to and conduct accident investigations and injury/accident case management. Apply the Company’s Substance Abuse Testing policy to maintain compliance, including but not limited to drug‑screen collections and records management while adhering to HIPAA standards. Partner with HR and site leaders on employee issues and concerns (e.g., onboarding questions, code of conduct). Conduct mandatory new‑hire safety orientation training as needed. Administer the safe permitting process (Lock Out Tag Out, etc.). Physical Demands Work outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, cold, and high elevations. Lifting and carrying awkward objects up to 60 lbs. Standing for extended periods up to 12 hours per day; working through breaks as necessary. Use arms, legs, climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, crawl, twist, reach, and bend on a regular basis. Use hands to handle, control, and feel objects and tools. Expectations for Field Employees Actively participate in a strong safety culture. Recognize safety hazards and risks. Participate in onsite safety meetings. Follow OPD and client safety policies and procedures. Be aware of changing conditions on an active jobsite. Be on time to the jobsite each day ready for work. Display a positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment. Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Valid driver's license. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. At least 2 years’ experience in a field safety position in the heavy construction industry. Computer knowledge – ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and proprietary databases. Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and implement company and OSHA safety regulations and standards. Proof of OSHA 510 or OSHA 30 Hour Course. Ability to interpret evaluation results/feedback and adjust to improve performance. Basic knowledge of atmospheric testing requirements and use of four gas monitors. Other Job Expectations Travel is a must with extended periods away from home in remote areas at times. Must be able to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week. Must be able to meet all physical demands of the job. What Will Put You Ahead 3+ years of experience in a craft role, primarily field construction. Fluent in Spanish. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification. Experience on excavations, trenching, and soil mechanics. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO). Experience using root cause analysis techniques such as Fishbone, Taproot, 5 whys or other methods. Past supervisory experience.
