As a Phlebotomist, you will provide expert phlebotomy services and demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills. You will function as part of a highly effective team and always put patients first. You are responsible for venipuncture collection and specimen processing, including order entry in multiple systems, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and lab reception/clerical duties. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections according to departmental policies, protocols and procedures. Demonstrate the AIDET model and optimize patient safety. Receive and review physician orders to ensure all necessary information is included for appropriate lab services. Enter accurate orders for lab tests in accordance with department policies, protocols and procedures. Communicate the patient communication model and provide appropriate post‑phlebotomy patient care. Process specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity of samples: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging specimens for transport. Review and record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Report concerns through the Corrective Action Log. Understand operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job. Follow up on the manifest log and communicate all draws, charges and results. Notify laboratory and/or physician of problems with specimen procurement. Maintain a safe work environment, adhering to biohazard waste procedures and ensuring proper storage and pickup of biohazardous waste. Perform lab‑related clerical duties including order entry, verification of test result receipt, and patient information retrieval using email, medical record systems, handheld and desktop devices. Use department resources efficiently; participate in efforts to reduce costs and streamline work processes. Adhere to continuing education expectations and complete competency assessments. Demonstrate teamwork and assist others professionally. Apply critical thinking, sound decision making and judgment to investigate and resolve challenging situations. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification. Preferred Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types. Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge. Familiarity with medical EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology.
