Description The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals that meet resident preferences, nutritional guidelines, and food safety standards. This role ensures efficient kitchen operations, menu execution, and compliance with sanitation and safety requirements. Location & Compensation 3400 South Point Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060, United States Base Pay $17.00 - $18.00 / Hour Requirements Previous cooking experience in a healthcare, hospitality, or senior living setting preferred. Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety standards. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining quality. Must meet all regulatory health, training, and background requirements. Responsibilities Prepare meals according to menus, recipes, and resident preferences. Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices are followed. Maintain kitchen cleanliness and equipment in good working order. Assist with menu planning and special event meals as requested. Monitor food inventory and notify the Culinary Manager of shortages. Support compliance with dietary and regulatory requirements. Other duties as assigned, including support for other departments. May be assigned job‑lead duties and support peers as needed, with potential duty rotation. Physical: Manage high‑volume periods, sustain extended activity (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, etc.). Unassisted: lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.; with assistance: up to 100 lbs. or more. Cognitive & Environmental: Work in low or bright lighting, loud noise, strong odors, variable temperatures, and potential exposure to infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens. Manage unpredictable schedules, changes of pace or priorities. Communicate effectively in English. Remain calm under stress and diffuse conflicts. Accurate, dependable, and thorough. Prepare for outdoor exposure as duties may require. Performance Measures Meet key performance indicators and industry/community metrics as assigned by leadership. Adjust to changing or evolving metrics accordingly. Regulatory Compliance Follow all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and licensing requirements for senior living services. Honor resident rights and follow established protocols for care, safety, and service delivery. Maintain required education, certifications, and credentials. Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance initiatives. Promptly report incidents or compliance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
