OR Registered Nurse

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking an experienced and compassionate OR Registered Nurse to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. As a vital member of our surgical services department, you will play a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and patient-centered perioperative care for a wide range of surgical procedures. Responsibilities In this role, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and fellow nurses to ensure that each patient receives high-quality care before, during, and after surgery. Responsibilities include conducting thorough preoperative assessments, confirming consents and histories, preparing patients and operating rooms for procedures, and providing circulating and/or scrub nurse functions during surgery. You will monitor patient status, advocate for patient safety and comfort, maintain strict aseptic technique, and ensure all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning correctly. You will be responsible for timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record, clear communication during handoffs to PACU and other care areas, and active participation in quality and safety initiatives. Educating patients and families about the surgical process, postoperative expectations, and follow-up care is a key component of this role. You will help drive positive patient outcomes by promoting best practices in infection prevention, pain management, and early mobilization in alignment with Mission Health’s evidence-based protocols. The current opportunity is a full-time position with a consistent schedule that may include rotating shifts, call, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on departmental needs. Our work model incorporates both on-site perioperative care and limited hybrid components for education, meetings, and certain non-direct care responsibilities. You will be expected to demonstrate strong clinical judgment, effective time management, and the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment while upholding Mission Health’s standards of compassion and excellence. Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold an active Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina (or compact state eligibility), a minimum of an associate degree in nursing from an accredited program, and current BLS certification. ACLS and PALS certifications are preferred and may be required within a specified timeframe after hire. Previous operating room or perioperative experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates with solid acute care experience and a strong interest in surgical nursing will be considered.
