Job Title Title Staff Attorney

The Title Staff Attorney supports the operations of a real estate title company by examining title, analyzing legal issues affecting the insurability of real property, and assisting in the resolution of title defects in connection with residential and commercial real estate transactions. In addition to underwriting and transactional responsibilities, the position includes conducting real estate closings, participating in business development efforts, and providing educational presentations to real estate professionals. This role is transactional, client-facing, and advisory in nature and works closely with escrow officers, title examiners, underwriters, and management to facilitate timely and accurate closings.

• Examine titles to real property and review title commitments, requirements, and exceptions for residential and commercial transactions.
• Analyze and resolve underwriting and title issues, including matters involving successions, trusts, powers of attorney, corporate authority, judgments, liens, servitudes, boundary matters, access issues, and curative requirements.
• Assist escrow officers and title staff in curing title defects prior to closing and in responding to lender and underwriter requirements.
• Conduct real estate closings and explain legal documents to buyers, sellers, lenders, and other parties in a clear and professional manner.
• Provide practical legal guidance to title company personnel regarding insurability of title, closing requirements, and risk mitigation.
• Review and prepare deeds, affidavits, curative instruments, and other transactional documents related to real estate closings.
• Participate in marketing and business development activities, including building and maintaining relationships with real estate agents, lenders, and other industry professionals.
• Teach and present educational seminars or informal training sessions for realtors, lenders, and clients on title, closing, and real estate law topics.
• Coordinate with the General Counsel and, when authorized, outside counsel on complex or unusual title or underwriting matters.
• Support management with legal research and analysis related to real estate transactions and title underwriting.
• Participate, on a limited basis, in claim or dispute matters involving the title company, primarily in a support and coordination role rather than as trial counsel.
• Perform other duties related to title underwriting, closings, and client relations as assigned.

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Louisiana (or eligible for admission).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Interest in real estate law, title examination, transactional practice, and client-facing work.
• Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with clients, real estate professionals, and non-lawyer staff.
• Comfort presenting legal concepts in an educational or seminar setting.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills in a deadline-driven environment.
