Salary based on education and experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work, requiring a minimum of eight (8) days per month in office. This position requires a criminal background check. Qualifications Education and experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in epidemiology. OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate's degree in medicine (MD), osteopathic medicine (DO), veterinarian medicine (DVM) public health, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics health sciences, biomedical sciences or environmental sciences with experience equivalent to two years' work experience in epidemiology. Substitution of education for experience: Additional graduate coursework in public health or an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, or health informatics with experience equivalent to four year's work experience in epidemiology. Substitution of education for experience: Additional studies with an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Fellowship may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in health science, biomedical science or environmental science with experience equivalent to six year's work experience in epidemiology. The position of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD) Surveillance Deputy Director serves as a key leader for the greater Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization Program (VPDIP) within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) division of the Tennessee Department of Health. This position supports the VPD Surveillance Director in carrying out all aspects of VPD surveillance in Tennessee. Responsibilities Leadership Support the VPD Director with day-to-day activities and oversight of the VPD Surveillance Program Provide supervision, support and mentorship to the epidemiology branch of the VPD team Assist the VPD Director with writing VPD-pertinent sections of federal grants Track and ensure completion of grant deliverables and performance milestones VPD Surveillance Serve as Subject Matter Expert for assigned VPD conditions Analyze and visualize VPD related data Ensure adherence to national case definitions, timely reporting requirements, and data standards Develop guidance documents, investigation tools, and response protocols Provide guidance, support, and technical assistance to Tennessee's 13 public health jurisdictions on VPD investigations and outbreak response Cross-Sector Collaboration Participate in VPDIP Epidemiologist Collaborative Coordinate cross-functional work across epidemiology, laboratory, immunizations, emergency preparedness, and communications teams. Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities including incident command structures when activated.
