Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Overview A Heavy Equipment Mechanic typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the work flow dictates. A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is primarily responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of heavy equipment and to fix any heavy equipment that might break down. The primary objective is to follow the instructions given by the shop foreman. Job Type: Full-time. Responsibilities A Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates. Upkeep and maintenance of heavy equipment; fix breakdowns as needed. Follow instructions given by the shop foreman. Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and load packers on garbage and dump trucks; inspect and adjust diesel power units, hydraulic systems, injection valves and systems, mold boards, and scarifiers on road graders; inspect, adjust and repair gasoline and diesel tractors and hydraulic and cable-operated attachments on tractors; repair and maintain trenching machines and set proper grade. Perform incidental welding operations; have welding knowledge and field experience; communicate unsafe conditions to the supervisor; strive to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide quality customer service; adhere to safety precautions and understand operation and maintenance requirements of heavy duty construction equipment. Requirements Five years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, including experience in repair and maintenance of heavy duty construction or firefighting equipment. Skills in care and use of hand and power tools used in heavy equipment maintenance and repair; experience with automotive servicing equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emission analyzer. Ability to diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English; ability to complete forms to record information in standard formats; observe and monitor for safety and compliance; install, replace or adjust filters, belts or similar items. Physical ability to stand for extended periods; lift heavy objects (50 lbs+); work in confined spaces; move heavy objects; safety-conscious.
