A Japanese-inspired matcha café in San Francisco is looking for a hands-on Front of House Manager to lead its team and daily operations.
The café brings Japanese matcha culture to life through high-quality matcha sourced from shade-grown farms in Japan, thoughtfully prepared drinks, Japanese-inspired food, and warm hospitality. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the guest experience while helping a team deliver smooth, welcoming service every day.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily front-of-house operations and keep service running smoothly.
- Create staff schedules, coordinate shift coverage, and assign team members to positions.
- Support the full hiring process, including applicant screening, interviews, hiring, onboarding, and training.
- Train new team members on customer service, menu and matcha knowledge, drink standards, POS systems, and opening and closing procedures.
- Coach and support existing staff, providing feedback and additional training as needed.
- Welcome guests, maintain high service standards, and handle concerns professionally.
- Keep the café clean, organized, and ready for service, including dining areas, restrooms, and drink stations.
- Manage front-of-house inventory and order supplies.
- Oversee opening and closing tasks, including cash register reconciliation.
- Update POS systems, menus, and third-party delivery platforms as needed.
- Communicate with the kitchen and management team about staffing, daily operations, and any issues requiring attention.
- Prepare daily reports on staffing, guest feedback, maintenance, and operational updates.
- Assist with other tasks that support the café’s daily operations.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in a café, restaurant, or food and beverage environment.
- Previous front-of-house experience.
- Supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Experience with hiring, onboarding, and training staff.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Fluent English required.
- Japanese language skills are a plus, but not required.
- Interest in hospitality, matcha, and Japanese food culture is a plus.
