Carney, Sandoe & Associates , an educational recruitment organization has partnered with Cincinnati Country Day School to find their next Director of Athletics in Cincinnati, OH with a start date of around July 2026.
Overview:
The director of athletics reports to the head of school and is responsible for developing and implementing the athletic program for the upper, middle, and lower school divisions. This is a full-time position that requires nights and weekends. Cincinnati Country Day School athletics has a tradition of excellence within the city of Cincinnati and the state of Ohio, and the director of athletics must maintain this tradition while aligning the program with the school’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
I. Develop an athletics strategy to align the program with the school’s mission
- CCDS is a rigorous college preparatory school where student education is central to the mission. As a co-curricular program, CCDS athletics plays an important role in supporting that mission by placing student growth and learning at its core.
II. Hire, evaluate, and develop the coaching staff
- Effectively on-board new coaches to Country Day to align with the school’s mission and values
- Meet regularly with coaches to discuss performance and team goals
- Provide regular opportunities for professional development of coaches
III. Maintain the athletics department budget
IV. Oversee the athletics department staff
- The athletics department staff consists of two associate directors, a sports information director, a director of sport performance, and an athletic trainer
V. Ensure compliance with all OHSAA rules and regulations
VI. Represent the school at all league, district, regional, and state meetings
VII. Maintain athletics equipment inventory
VIII . Engage with families in a way that inspires positive parent involvement and partnership to include effectively addressing student and parent concerns
IX. Work with the CCDS admissions team to attract and admit scholar-athletes
X. Work with the head of school to develop strategies for new athletics facilities
Attributes and Skills:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
- The director of athletics regularly speaks in front of large groups of people
- The director of athletics regularly writes articles for the Country Day athletics website
• Extensive knowledge of the wide range of sports offerings at CCDS
• High energy, high enthusiasm personality that can build community and elevate school spirit
• Ability to foster a positive working relationship with all constituencies including parents, students, colleagues, coaches, faculty, staff, neighbors, etc. through visibility and collaboration
• Experience in athlete training and physical conditioning
• Marketing of the athletics program and its student-athletes
Physical Conditions:
Ability to walk to various facilities on a large campus as well as lift and maneuver athletics equipment and materials. This is a year-round position, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable in all weather conditions.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred
• 5+ years’ experience in athletic administration preferred
• Proficient in technology (Veracross and Microsoft preferred)
• Experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level
