Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring a WI or compact license, 1 year of PCU or ICU experience, and Cerner proficiency.

Details

• Acute care Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/IMC/Med Surg stepdown department in a Level 4 trauma facility
• 12-bed unit plus 4 ICU rooms with an average census of 8 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-5 (ICU 1:3, IMC/PCU 1:3-4, Med Surg 1:5) with team nursing model pairing RN and LPN for up to 7 patients
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia/COVID and post-op knee and hip patients as well as fall cases
• RNs required to titrate drips including Amiodarone and Heparin (IMCU) and Levophed, Cardizem, Dobutamine, and pressors (ICU)
• Remote tele monitoring with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips
• CNA support available at ratios dependent on census
• 12-hour night shifts
• Weekend rotation required every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 holidays
• On-call/standby rotation required with a 45-minute response time; likelihood reduced for those willing to float to the ED
• Floating may be required to the ED for tasking or hold patients
• Uses Cerner EMR

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or ICU experience required (Med Surg-Tele experience alone not accepted)
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required as needed

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including drip titration and telemetry strip interpretation
• Charge nurse typically carries a small patient assignment and travelers may be asked to serve in this role
• Unit manager is a former traveler
• Scheduler assists with self-scheduling and balancing gaps in permanent staffing
• Travelers are asked to remain flexible to help fill staffing gaps; block scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed
• Scrubs of any solid color are acceptable
• Unit-specific orientation includes 4 hours of computer-based training and 8 hours of floor training
• Travel RN duos and first-time travelers will be considered
• Candidates who previously worked for the facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
• Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
